to desert from the service of the United States.
The information was made on oath of the wife
of Beckley. The woman testified to a oon
versation between Bedpeth and Itaokley, in
whieh he told Beckley that ,he need 'not go
into the service;

draft came o ff in"Ohlo, go out there end sell
himself as a substitute for soiliebody else.
Bedpeth's story ls, that helot this Beckley
as a substitute for some rin named Paul
nuke for $3OO —that he paid $l5O at one time
—that Hackley was sworn in, and the money
handed over to Josephine, the wife of Hack.
