Ap• TAT at this cam • TO the readers of the REPORTER We offer no apology for the lack of the naval Variety of items in its different departments this week. The sudden and unexpected death of Hon. E. O'MEARA GOODRICH, its editor and proprietor, has not only cast a gloom over our entire community, but it has brought to us, his associate in the conduct of the _paper for the past two years, a grief sodoep and overwhelming, that we have been illy fitted for the past few days to give the paper that care and attention that our duty to it and its read ers demanded. In the 'columns of the Department of the paper through which be has _for so many years held almost weekly converse with the readers of the lEPORTEB, Mends who knew him well, this week tell the -story, briefly, of •his life, and speak words, made . eloquent by their truthfulness, of his many ,noble qualities. Columns could- bo added -to - .Abatis said there, and yet the acts of kindness performed by this good rinan, wou*not all be written. For twenty-five years wo had known him, we may say, intimately. For over nine of th4e years we had been in his employ. During all ,of that time, we recall not a single hash or unkind word or expression to us, nor do iwe remember of eter bearing ,him ulte .one toward or of any individual. We have seen k hundreds come to him for chrity—never vac go away empty hand ed. For years he had been to us the kindest, trout friend we` have ever known. Living, v(e admired him for his great ability, respected -Lim for his true worth, and loved him for hisiirts of kind ness. Dzad, we: shall tendCrly cherish -his memory thiongh the rentiaining years of life. In deference to what'we believe would have been his desire, we have not dresseilthe taper in mourning, but have arranged the matter in its columns, just as near as possible as he would have directed it to be. - Wisest of counselors, , truest and kindest of friend?, good bye.
