did nut seem to be in the least datipened
by the falling mita. A number of &legs;
tions from surrounding-towns partinipate
ed in the parade,- quite a lame number
coming by special train from Barclay,
bringing with them an excellent band.
At the conclusion of the parade Mercer
Hail was packed to its utmost capacity
with out of the most enthusiastic!: -crowds
ever .asaembled 'within its walls. The
meeting was addressed by Hon. Guottou
Lusnoir. The address Was one of the
ablest of the campaigu and , elicited fre
quent and vociferous applaise. — At 'the
conclusion of 'the address, i 'the Glee club
sang several pieces, and Mr..BrausK fa
vored the l audience with several well-ren
dered patriotie songs, the' audience gave
three hearty cheers each for the speaker,
the Germania and Barclay Bands, the
Singers, SO the whole Republican ticket,
and then the assemblage dispersed.
Oun sister village of 'Ulster closed the
preliminary work of the. campaign on
Monday evening last, with the grandest
political demonstration ever given in her
borders. A special traitarotn this plc.e.
carried up the GARFIELD and: ARTHUR
Battallotir:3so, strong • accompanied 'by the
Germania Bod,and Drum 'Corps:. - The
ArbenS • Club,; numbering abine., 100 men
came by the iveuing 'train bringing with
'them the Pdrkins Post Baud of that
place. - Delegatkins were also present
from neighboring towns, and Ulster her
self. turned out
-about 100 fully equipped
voters. The line for the torchlight pa
rade formed at about 7 o'clock and march
ed through. the streets of _the villige.•
There were 521 men in line. Along the
route nearly every !Muse Was brilliantly,
illuminated whilst large bun tires were
burning in the streets. Careful estimates'
fixed the. number of people; present at'
above 1500. At. the conclusion of the
parade an out-door meeting was organiz
ed which Was addressed in eloquent and
convincing speecheit by. DANIEL O'CON.;
ELL, of Elmira, and Hon. W. T. DAvrks,
of this place. After the speeches three
heafty cheers' were given for the whole
ticket, when assemblage dispersed.
A.RIFLE Match between the Raitern
Bradford Jeatn and a team made up from,
Towanda, took place at Rome on Satur
day list. The _weather *as unfavorable
for a Match; but themarksmen'took their
positions : regardless of the heavy rain.'
