SAYRE
Mn. Enrron :—The following para
graph from the "Pennsyl v ania School
Journal," has been going the rounda of
the laily, weekly and monthly papers of
the County, viz : "Mr. R. A. PACKER,
Superintendent of ot!IP of the Pennsylva
nia railroads, while recently hunting with
a party of gentlemen in Nebraska, con
versed for two hours pleasantly with his
wife and friends at Sayre, Pa., and
friends along the line. The medium was
the railroad and Western Union Tele
graph wlies and EDISON'S Telephone.' At
the office in Bethlehem, Pa., connection
was made with the Easton and Amboy
wire, and thence to Chicago and North
Bend, Nebraska, 'where the party were.
The distance was about two tho4sand
miles, and every whisikr was audible."
The truth of the matter, as I learn from
an operator who was present on the occa
sion, Mr. R. A. PACKER and party did
converse for two hours by telegraph with
their friends. The only part of the EDISON
Telephone in the transaction, was to con
vey the messages from the station at
Mauch Chunk to the retidenle of the late
Judge PACKER. It is pbssible to converse
by telephone from Mauch Chunk to
Sayre, Pa., but from Bethlehem to North
Bend, Nebraska well !
, Years truly, J. F. Ovpisnute.

our Anna Is dead ;
See the fair hair on her forehead, so cold and mar

feet her go linme to.fesus, she'll receive a fond wojp

Sli years of passing sunsbine, so full of happy glee--
Six years of innocent pleasure, so joyful and so

But alas the dread destroyer. came and lEnocked
upon our door,
And.at last lie gained admittance, and our Anna
Was no more.
She saw the angels coming to take her far away,
And atm told her weeping father, "Papa, don't
forget to pray,
Or you cannot come to Heaven, where 1 and grand•
ma dwell ;
Do not weep, my darling mamma, Jesus doeth all
things well."
We miss a surest lace from the housebrild, a foot

And the. earth is cold and lonely—we miss some.
thing everywhere.
We see her little playthlugs Ile loosely on the door.,
We see the little dresses, but Dover see her
more—
Not In this sad world of sorrow, where pain and
trouble come,
But we'll see her up In Heaven, with the angels
•round the throne.
She has gone to meet sweet Ruthle, and we long
for her sweet alas,
Bueshe reigns aphappy angel, in the realm of per
feet trliss.
Just before the death of Anna, Ruth, our loved ono,
went to Heaven,— . .
For 'twee only a few days longer of life to Anna
given, .
After Ruthie gabled the portals and reached the
starry world,
And 'midst th e hoots of angels her snowy wings
unfurled'. i'
Though we mourn thil death of Anna, and the
death of Ruthie, too,
Yet we know that they have reached the land above
the azure blue;
With the angels they are singing songs of praise
around the throne,
They are standing at the gateway, waiting there
for us to come.
