supposed to have been accidental.

THE Sullivan • Centennial Celebration,
August 29th, says the Waverly Advocate,
will be the most imposing demonstration
of the kind ever witnessed in Southern
New :York or Northern Pennsylvania.
Many of the most eminent men of the Na-
t:on will be there,-and, from present ap
pearances, the concourse of people will
will -be the largest ever seen outside of our
large cities. Everything is being put in ,
readiness for the grand occasion. They
grounds are the finest to bo found in the
country, and access to thetri easy, and the
- fare merely nominal. The celebration
will last but one day, with- a grand dis
play of lire-works at Elmira in the even
ing.

Ross, a painter of Port Jervis, started
from that place on Tuesday of last week
to visit her relatives at Towanda, Pa.
After her departnre t Mr. Ross found that
his wife bad not only, carried off the con
tents of the meneyimx, the earnings of
months, but her winter and summer
clothing, sheets", spreads, etc. On Satur
day last ke received a telegram, purport
ing to be signed :by her, dated at Towanda,
stating that she was sick. and asking him
to come at pude. He went to Towanda,
but she had not been there, and then be
visited Owego,*averly,Elmira,Canandai
gua., Rochester, Huffalo, Ifornellsville, and
back to Genev4, Without finding trace of
her or the trunk. He finally learned that
his wife had left the train at Susquehlinna,
claiming to be Sick, had stopped her bag
gage And went :to New York. Mr. Ross
went to New YOrk, but could find no fur
ther trace of her. Mr. Ross thinks a
Port Jervis marl is implicated in the mat
ter, and he will l emleaver to find and pun
ish him, and also take steps to procure a
divorce. They badresided iii Port Jervis
ever since their:marriage (ten years), and
had no children.—Owego Times.
Just back of :Mr. FOWLER'S residence,
there is a beautiful glen with a wild moun
tain stream that comes spattering and
sprawling over the rocks in pretty falls and
cascades, and the view well repays a ram
ble in that direction. But either, we had
partaken too largely of.the'afore mention
ed delicaciCs and become indolent in con-,
sequence, or the summer sun was shining
just a little too warm, we failed to , make
up a party to walk up the glen. Finally,
in conclusion, (as the preacher says),
when the sun was nearing the Western

Aunt KATIE spent the inost of her long
and useful life in the same neighborhood
and on the sanie farm where her parents
first settled ; though she lived so
long in this age of improvements, she had
never taken a tide tfpou a railroad or even
seen a train ofi ca?s. She spent her time
iuietly and unobtrusively at home attend
ing to the affairs of her family—leaving
behind her numerou4 descendants of
Children and grandchildren. Thirty-eight
years she had been a widow, but in all
these years of !loneliness she had.the Goo
of the widowi , and the fatherless for her
comfort and •stipport. A good neighbor,
an affectionate mother and a faithful
christian, she has left a bright ex
ample'for us all to follow, retaining her
faculties in a remarkable manner to the

refreshing ice-cream and coffee, and there

gar. The minister, the doctor, the mer
chant and the farmer who were our
guests, certainly did justice to the savory
viands. But all things earthly must have
an end, so did that delightful dinner un
der the trees.
