A SEVERE storm visited the Western
portion of.this county on Friday last,
doing considerable damage to buildings,
crops, etc: During the prevalence of
the storm' two large barns belonging to
ABEL MANLY, near Alba, werd struck by
lightning, the fluid setting fire to the
structured, and they were burned to the
groind. The barns contained /shoat
forty tons of hay,- which bad just been
harvested, and that was also completely
destroyed.-

was opened iu Laceyville July 341. It k
to be known as the Wyoming County Ice-
Cream Factory, and will be run by steam.

will be filled at any time. Those living

Tim Waverly correspondent of the El
mira Frey Prom of Monday, says :
"Mike Welch, one of the notorious
Wellsboro bank robbers, who. has just
been released from his siz years' term of
service, was re-arrested immediately on
his release and taken back to Welisboro.
'What the arrest was for is as yet unex
plained, but •undoubtedly the authorities
understand their business; and as society
is not only safer but better off with such
characters in a safe place no .honest
man will care again to see- thrown
loose upon society."

the cherry season is now at band we may:
perhaps do some good by throwing out a
cautionary warn.ng against the danger, of,
swallowing cherry Stones. A . man died
in Vermont the other day after suffering
f rom dyspepsia twenty years. Some pe
culiar circumstances in his case led to a
post mortem examination which revealed
thirteen cherry stones imbedded in the
lining of his stomach, causing a thicken
ing of the walls of that organ of some
threatourths of an inch, and ultimately
the man's death.

have purchased and' are putting up In
their office- a new Cottrell &. Babcock
steam poker press. • It is said to be the
largest and moat expensive press ever
brought to Owego. , We learn that the
Times is soon to be. eniarged to forty.Col
mans, making it the largeit paper in Tio
ga County. It has long been recogn'zed
as one of the best , papers in the Stateof
New York, and we arc glad to note this
evidence that it is a paying one. If the
proprietors will accept a suggestion from

ed that Canton, whose patriotic= is no=

that correspondent that the crops in the,
section through which he traveled ate no
better than those in other portions of oar
county. What he saw there he would see
elsewhere. The soil of Bradford County
is second to none in the State, and her
farmers aro men of intelligence. A good
soil with intelligence to till It, usually in
sures a bounteous . harvest. ' Poor crops in
Bradford are the exceptioir and not the
rule, neighbor.

than Mr. R. C. White, not a better "Dick
Deadeye," the pestiferous sailor, than M.

"Ralph Rackstraw" than Mr. W. :Mc-
Creery. Deadeye, Ralph, and Bill Bobt

Carpenter's mate, and the young mid
shipman did their parts well. All In all,
the Charming opera of • "Pinafore, ' rich

comprehensive grasp of ordinary mortals,
was never given more satisfactorily in
Elmira than last evening.

in last 'week's issue the account of the
Bradford Baptist Association held witli
Leßoy Church, but we think the descrip
tion not quite complete without speaking
Particularly of the free conference refer
red to. Several aged pilgrims were pres
ent, such as Deacon JAMxs Er.r.tarr, of
Towanda, Elder 31rnos RocxwELL, and
others who, in.early life, enlisted •in the
service of JESUS - CIIIIIIIT, who gave a
short history of their, experience in His
service, which testimony impressed us
deeply. Not one expressed regret that
ho enlisted seyoung or pad tried to be a.
true and' faithful soldier in this service;
or complained that the Master had failed,
in one instance to do all that He had
promised. They 'spoke of His loving
