- Much.bas been said about pilitical re-
That is all right, but in order to
secure that we must, have individual re
form. Individual ici l min is my motto. I
started in life with fair prospects, married
young. I was my father's only child. I
lived on imy father's faim with Imy wife
until I was the father of a family of chil
dren. Being au only son I was much In
dulged.' : I t:oli got to' sporting in horses
and atter:Aim; races, and then the dripk
ing saloons. Prom there to the gambling
table, and knowing that my father would
look after and care for my family in my
absence, I made the . acquaintance of a
prostitute woman, :v►d that completed
my ruin. ThroUgh the fascinations' of
one of them I.was induced to leave, one of.
the best woolen that it was ever the lot of
any mau to call his own, as well as bright
and nice a family of children, as the sun
ever shone upon. I never was avery bard
drinker; but yet drank enough to blunt
the tender sensibility . of husband and
father.
Now ll 3lr. Editor, I write these lines to
you, having tWo objects in view : One is to
show t 4 the young the danger they stand
in by attending the drinking saloons or
*gambling table, and keeping bad compa
ny of either sex. If these lines shall fall
under the notice of any one that has
similar inclinations 'such as I bad, and
such as proved my .overthrovi, it may
cause them to stop at once and reflect suf
ficiently to induce them to firmly resolve
that neither strong drink, gambling ta
hies or bad comi any of either sex, shall
prove their ruin ; but M-k strength of Him
thatds always ready and willing, and able
to strengthen and save all that call upon
'Him. Then one object will have been oh_
tanned. The other . is, I feel it my duty to
state to the public that I lytve made a
firm resolve, Goo being my helper, to
abandon all of my former evil ,habits and
associates. You may imagine the feelings
of one undergoing Imprisonment, but
none. but a convict can. know what it is to
be cut off front the outside world and all
that we hold dear on earth. To the heart
susceptible of feeling it is painful in the
extreme.. I to Fay to all fast young
men, be trained in time, if you wish to
avoid my fate, is the advice of a true
friend. IS'. 13. DOANE.
