True, wo sometimes . hear of breaches of trust, . but we venture to say that they are as fed in proportion now to the population and the.amount of business done as in: any former period. Millions of dollars are changing hands ev ery day on simple faith in the verbal promises of Tien; they make their promi ses good, yet tie make . no note of this, but when some petty rascal, or perhaps a great one, Ommits a breach of trust, everybody is_immediately made acquaint ed with the fact, and the old question is again asked : "Is there any honesty left in this country ?" Yes, lots of it, and it is the very foundation of the • vast business which is transacted from day to day, it is scattered all through the human family, _ _ a nd if we could only Fee and note the hon esty, virtue and good in the c. mmunity, we would find that it would weigh !Mich the most when put in the scales, along side of the evil. It is a season of much enjoy ment yet mingled as ail our joys are apt to bi with some sorrow. Truly this earth presents many strange contrasts. "The hut of the starving-stands in the shadow of the palace of the wealthy, and the car riage of Dives every day throw;; the dust of its glittering wheels over the tattered garments of Lazarus," While some set 'down in the midst of friends to a bonnt.- ful feast; and find in their love and-in the comforts oflife about them much to make life pleasant and to be thankful for; oth ers in their distress and sorrow can see only the dark side of life, and can find nq words of thanks.eVen •• ,or rife itself, for Ur a t their very life is burder. to them. In some countries men are born to Wealth and greatness, but in all this broad land of ours no man can ';ay it'. he has no com fotts about him. that it was. the fault of his birth, or that the law.s.of his country hinder am way his enjoyment of liberty and the pursuit-oil-happiness." !Perhaps this •is a dicression . from ';ltems,' - ' but this particular bles 7 sing; though it has been often repeated thought would bear another reading by alan4t any of your readers—this blessing we have in our country that "every-luau is the atchitect of his own fortunes" and ' may on each returning day of thanks'! carve his own turkey. To HOSE ABOUT TO MARRY.—A deci sion of the Supreme Court of Pennsylv.i nia, in a divorce case, is of interest as lay. ing down the principal() that the-uncorrob orated testimony of: the wife, although denied under oath by the husband may 'justify a verdict' in favor of the wife. The cause alleged for divorce were in this case harsh and cruel treatment, and the offering of indignities which. had become unbearable:--offenses whiCh are not often committed in thp presence of witnesses— . so that, except under this ruling, a suffer. ing wife, might be utterly "unable to pro ',duce testimony corroborative of• the facts alleged in her plea for divorce. In such a case, the Supreme Couit says, a verdict may be rendered In het favor. CHARLIE ROSS.—The town wairtgita ted yesterday by the" rumor that COMAE Ross had been found—found by a citizen of this county. -, Information of this fact Ward its way to Mr. C. K. Ross, of Ger mantown, father of the lost child, and on Tuesday evening Mr. Ross put in an ap pearance here. From the fact that such information as he . had tempted Mr. Ross to come here to investigate the case, we conclude that the indications of authem ticity in this instance must have been un usually exact. Mr. Ross has come to probe the mystery to his own satisfaction. Of his efforts heretofore in search of his lost offspring. we hope to lay before our read ers a' full account. Meanwhile, are trust the present clue may not prove fruitless. It "appears that what has brought Mr. Ross here is due to some eorresPondence which has passed, between himself and NELSON VANDERPOOL, of TOiryt.OWO, who has found, as'it seems, to both parties a reliable clue to the lost child, in a neigh boring county, and this the latter is pre -pared to substantiate in a way that at any rate, is sufficient to attract the atten tht of the former.
