Court House on Wednesday evening last \

most arginnenfative and convincing ad
dress, which had the effect •of • bringing .
many forward, who signed ' the aboVe
pledge, and enrolled themselves in the
temperance army., It was . announced
that the meeting would be omitted Satur
day evening, but in -the morning notice
having . been received that 'Messrs. Eli
moss and I DoLsoii, of • Elmira, could be
with us,-the word was given out, and be
fore it was time for the meeting to com
mence, the seats were all filled. The ,
speakers were attentively listened to, :and
the eloquent words wore' not without
their effect. Mr. DoLsos spoke from ex
perience when 'he depicted the evils oft
both moderate' and excessive drinking, 'as
well as the folly of attempting to reform
in his iwit strength. •
The choir sang several stirring songs
and bu s t few of the vast concourse went.

'religious movement, and is heartily en

nominations.

and Rev. Dr.. KNox, of Elmira, addresied
a large and enthusiastic meeting in the
Court House. Both gentlemen madeolo
quent and stirring speeches, and ,secured
