Dirari.., who died at his residence
in Towanda township, last week, was
bons in Switzerland, Jude, 1807; He
graduated at one of the first colleg* in
his native country, - and was for many
years a priminent man in Switzerland.
About 21 years since he came to this
country, and has lived a quiet, peaceable
life on his farm. He never became famil
fat with our language, consequently his
circle of acquaintance was somewhat lim
ited, but he was held iti'the highest es
teem by his neighbors and those who
made his acquaintance. Almost idolized
by his family; his loss is a severe blow to
his bereaved wife and affectionate chil
dren.; At the age of 10 he united with
the•tvangelical church, and during his
long life adorned the profession he made.
A TE3IPERINUE man writing from Law
rencerille, Pa., to the Wellsboro' Agitator,
pays friend Bms abd the good cause he
is . preaching thiS compliment : •

mid, by a poster, and we knew nathing
about him, or what the lecture would' be,
aro' consequently there was not a large
u:isembly; and lest the people in other
places where he proposes to speak may be
in the same predicament, 1 thought I
would say that Mr. Burrs is so ti:trough
ly a Chr stian and a gentleman, and, so
touch a master of his subject, that "the
one lecture convinced me, as I presume it
did all who heard it. that he was just the
man we want in this county
,at the pres
itut time.
"Ile makes no pretension td oratory or
learning, but comes to us in the interest
ot humanity„ Ile speaks• from the heart,
and : his words go to the hcart, while at
the same time he displays no little talent
and ingenuity, and in my judgment is
