of the stage. She elleideedl at once in en.

ahe keeps up the inteest of all whe Baton
to her during the entire Performance. So
vividly does she portray the various ark;
acters of the poems which she reads, that
her auditors are :allvaiya Moved to miles
tir tears according to the style of the
piece recited. One of the pima rendernd
by her last evening is especially deserving
of mention. It is- entitled, ." Mother and
Poet," and is -the story of an Italian
mother who sent forth two noble boys to"
battle for the free&m and the unity'of
Italy. They both fell in the cause of
their country, and Nisi GBEENIIAN de
picts in truly dramatic 'style the heart
broken mother as she mourns her dead
and asks the question what it is all worth
to her a ft er the cause is; won, while her

other rare literary gem; into the spirit of
which Miss GUEEMI-VIC enters with true
fervor. This'll a story of how a slave
saved the church of St. Michael, in
Charleston, South Carolina, from destruc
tiOnduring a conflagration in .that , city,
by ascending the spire and detaching a
burning brand which had fastened upon
the steeple. All who listened to Miss
Gnefgorss last evening, will agree with'
us that, she is a reader of great talent and
power.' In this prqfession she is bound
to make a name and a fame inferior to
none in the land, and' whatever praise
may be bestowed upon her she rich!) , de
serves. We hope that at some future day
the may he induced to visit dur. city , and
give public recitations. We have no hes
itation in saying that she is at least.the
equal of any female recitationist now be
fore the American public. "Whatever rep
utation she has in her profession she has
won by her own unaided ;effortS, and she
is worthy in every particular of the gen
erous aid and patronage of all lovers of
dramatic reading."
