mournful regret we are called open to record
the death of the above named estimable young
lady, who departed this life at Canton. Pa. on

one who knew her. Of great musical talent,_
she early achieved more than a local fame, and
at the time of her early death, her fame as a
singer was rapidly. extending; but . too lovely
for earth, she drooped and died, to join the,
bright angelic band, to sing the swelling an
thems of her Redeemer in the shining courts
of heaven's angels. Yea, she is dead.' No more
on earth: will we meet her; but her name will
ever remain fresh and green in the memory of
all who knew her. 1 5 : eace to her ashes.

SHALL SAYINGS 1711031 THE SUBURBS—
ON THE SUBJECT OF HVAtAN NATUIIE, AS COM
PREHENDED BY Boys.—We don't think any fam
ily is complete without boys. When they get
to a certain age, and takes to the study of,, bri
man nature as a business, they is oneouithon
interestin'. Human natnre was a mystery to
our house till the boys got big enough, to
read it, but now we are all bhoked up, and
know exactly how to deal with it, either singly
or in the aggregate. -
Girls la n't much at human .nature. They
ain't apt to. be
. sharp, and see through folks,
and get at their motives, and if they do happen
to, they has n't much force in attackin' and
overwhelm in"em.
Boys, on the contrary, has. • About the time
their noses are full-sized, and their bents at
the biggest, and while they still repair! con
siderable victuals, their opinions on human na
ture is most, valnable and entertaiuye. , We has
one in the suburbs who was never known to
make a mistake in cstimetin' the, i character at
any livin' man. Women is below ;his . average
'range of study. - He is'nt radical enough'in his
political views anyhow, to bather with 'em, nor
niggers, nor idiots neither.. This boy has got
eyes, and a voice, which is the principal ingre;
ifients in his cembination. He !Joke at yon out
of round, muddy black Orbs; that stare straight,
through a nebulous surrounding of yellowish
white, melancholic stupor, and if you are fool-.
ish enough to imagine ,his imperturbable gaze
has. n't penetrated every refuge of your sinful
sou!, the voice comes in to startle yon front the
dclusio..i. ,If he transfixes you 'with, the impu
dence of his manner, son must n'i grow indig
nkrat, or ho will rate you as guilty. You moat n't
revolt,.or 'lie will attlibuto your d'scomfort to
the throes of" conviction. He talks of Writhe
Evaugeliit; and: if somebody doesn't kill him,
we know a stout moralist we will start him in
' -
puistrit of.
Thoys more boys in - tho suburbs that rimier
stands hamit nature. Theya a grey', gimlet
eyed t one, that dolt gat at the symptoms of
depravity by sqtt'are atarin'. Ho does it a
shrewder and more veiled observation.
If your cores make you walks littleonsteady,
he sets you down as a °notable, feeble charac
ter, that has n't, got will power enough to keep
you epright in your gatt, 'or lectilines r in your
purpose._ You need n't allude to your corns
with hopeful alacrity, for such boys is u't ever
mistaken in their judcments; If you has weak
eyes, and gets a scowl between 'em, io conon
(pence of anxious "lookin', ho interprets the
frown as the evidence of a carp in' eon!, and if
your truth - give out accordite to hereditary
usage, and the: lines at the corners of your ,
poor recedin' month falls away into a rigid per
pendicular, ho takes it for the stamp of hypoc
risy; and you may grin forth the forlorn vacan
cies, by Way of 'explanation, through a whole
Summer vacation, to no purpose, for boys read
human nature onerrinly.
Some of 'em takeS to phrenology, and falls to
countin' bumps with a pertinacity that makes
hats a institutioa 'of grateful resort, arid un
covered heads a matter of oneasineos. I've
known boys of this stripe as would make arti-
Lcial bumps, and then administer on 'em in a
way that wasn't over-flatterin' to the owner's
intellect, but they wasn't no use in cgemplaintn;
for nothin' earthly will onsettle a boy's faith in
his knna - ledge of human nature;
Folks, like us, that lives in the subtirbs, and
hasn't many facilities:or acquiriz' a-extended
knowledge of mankind, is • very ihankful, not
withetandin' these minor discomforts, for the
Wallin' wisdom of boys. -
We doec Let doubt their at. all,
and we has groat hopes that they will be the
means of shOrteniu' the. process of final con
demnin' at the judgment day, by the . superior
wisdom of their early and established methods
of meting out justice. •
