appear as essayist at the present time, yet ever

Now as ever In life, sad and, happy thoughts are
mingled, as we sit down to pen these few lines.
Yesterday. as It were, a merry, school girl -today
the band of Friths: Time fails heavily on our head.

brotherhood,i ban that which we have chosen. Every
boy ought to improve on his father; every :girl grow

b:s physical, mental and moral poweri, Is-wholly de
pendent upon education, and parents are , to their
children fortune, fate and destiny. It should be re
membeied that their influence le for good or ill; that
it mustirstanlt in prometlitia the happiness or bak
ery of those who are subject to its action.- That they
.are deciding the character of their children, determ
ining their fortune, spinning the threads of fate,
planning their destiny and forcing them, as it were'
upon a tide which they may not turn. As the atone
hurled from the sling takes its (direction and finds
Its resting place at the bidding of the arm that wields
it. so the child goes forward. and Ands its grave in
peace or sorrow, according to the impulse given'at
