DECORATION DAY AT LERAYBNI4LE.--.-
May 36; 1874, the day fixed for decorating the
graves of oar departed soldiers, was very ap

first time, and although not very extensively
advertised, a large number assembled on the
green in front of the Congregational church,
and were formed in procession by Capt.:ll. E.'
Wausr.m; Marshal. beaded by the Leßaysville
Garnet Band, and marched to the cemetery.
the band discoursing appropriate. music. On
arriving at the cemetery, prayer was offered by
the Rev. S. EGRELL,and after a piece of music
was performed by the baud, the Rev. tAwAra.,
gave a very able and touching address, after
which flowers were strewn upon rho grates by
eight•young ladies dressed in white. Thn pro
cession was then re-formed and marched back
to the church, and was addressed by the Be,.
W. 0. Bax.nwpr and Capt. M. E. Warms.
The congregation then sang the familiar hymn,
"A6erica," and were 'dismissed with the bene
diction by Rev. S. Eorcu.. The: exercises
throughout were of a solemn and imposing
character, and the participants in bestowing
these tokens of honor upon the graves of those
brave soldiers, feel firatefuf for the opportunity
thus afrirded them id aiding to perpetuite the
memory of those noble boys. Much praise is
due ate band for their very excellent selection
of music for the occasion. C.

Tlis Northern Tier Gazette gives
the following particulars of the melancholy
death of Mrs. Haants, announced in the RE
PORT= of list week : -
• "'She was a daughter of W. A. yhoitas, Esq.,
late prothonotary of Bradford county, and was
born in Troy in the year MO. Four years ago
at her father's house she was married to 3. B.
Harris, Esq, a young attorney, who resided
for some time. at this place, but who soon re
moved to Titusville, where he holds she posi
tion of City Attorney. Mr. Harris, as we learn
from the Titusville Courier had been absent,
traveling in the South for his health, and was
in Greenville, South Carolina, When a telegram ,
was sent him saying his wife was dangerously
ill! During the latter part of the week, Mrs.
Harris, who had even birth to an infant on
Monday, became dangerously ill. Mr. H.
started at once forlome, and reached Oil City
Sunday morning. His friends in Titusville
thinking that he might possibly arrive at Oil
City too late for the Sunday morning train, sent
a carriage to Oil City, and fortunately met him
and brought him to Titussille, arriving there
at five o'clock in the afternoon.
"Mrs. Harris, who, it was' feared, could not
survive until her husband should reach home,
stated, that her only desire, now that she could
not get well, waste live until his return. But
atter he did 'come, she asked her physician if
be could not prolong her life . a little, so that
she might- talk more with her husband and ar
range.for their children. About an hour later
her father and sister from Bradford county ar
rived and wore recognized by her. The meet
ings, first by the husband with his dying wife,
next by the father and sister with her at the
same bedside, were both in describably affect
ing. She ha erect half.past ten o'clock,
when she sank peacefully away and without a
struggle. She leaves bellied to her stricken
husband, besides the infant, a little daughter
about two years old. Her excellent qualities
won her a large number of friends ands pain
ful void will.be lett in the circle in which the
moved. Her mother died alxiut two years ago.
It was the wish of Mrs. Harris that she might
be buried beside her mother in Bradford coun
ty; and accordingly Mr. Harris, Mr. Thomas
and his daughter, accompsied by Mr. D. D.
Fassett, latrpartner of Mr. Harris, came with
her, remaini to alba on Tuesday morning. •
"The, funeral took place at Alba, Pa., on
Tuesday, the sermon being preached by Silas
E. Shepard, D. D. No words of ours can soften
the pain el those suffering • from• this sudden
bereavement. The sympathy of ftiendcin such
trials, If it were possible, woulklighten the bur
den of sorrow. Dut iu such trials the otter
weakness of human support is foil. Let them
take consolation from the voice which com
mands : "Bo still, and know that I am God."'
