We have frequently had occasion to speak of
the excellent and liberal management of the
Lehigh Valley railroad. The recent limiter the
Scott Legion to Wilkes-Barre and Manch
Chunk was an open free ride, and when the
visitors from Wilkes-Barre and this direction
came to leave toe mountain city on the Lehigli
Superintendent B. A. Packer was p resent and
gave directions to the conductor, Mr. James
Johnson, to not say tickets "to those who
bad been attending the — celebration. It is need
less to say that Mr. Johnson was particularly
kind and attentive, as indeed all the conductors
on that road invariably are.

to postpone his lecture at Cooper Institute. It
will. ome off on May 12. The Bev. gentleman
is said to be one.of the finest Irish eloclutionists
we have. He is well up in the love of the old
land ; is in sympathy with her patriotic bards,
and his recitation of certain passages in his
Philadelphia lecture, excited the liveliest en-
Ahnsiasm. We have theituthority of so stood a
scholar es Mr. McAlester, of the Freeman's
Journal, for promising our readers a rich treat
when they attend this lecture for the cause of
the "Monumental Church " at Towanda, I).Y its
zealous, and accomplished pastor. - Father
Toner.has' two missions, Towanda and Barclay.
Ho has just established a wood Total Absti
nence society. Ile is the friend of our cause.
Let us stand by him. Tickets 50 cents; for sale,
at all the Catholic book stores.

temperance movement Is the great and all-absorb
hag question of the day. Our ministers, onr citi
zens—men and women—are taking position for or
against sustaining the laws'of the land. One of the
hopeful signs of the. times Is that all our Christian
ministers are a unit in favor of temperance. And
