• "The banking-lions° Of George Sanderson .k
Co., was established by Goo. Ilanderson it Bur
ton Kingsbury, in Bovember, 1855, and is the
Bur

first commenced business in the small wooden
building lately occupied by Mr. Thonias Par
rott as a:merchant tailoring' establishment,
ancl_was at that time the only building on that
aide of Lackawanna avenue, with few amp-
Bons. At a later period they occupied their
more commodious establishment, located on
the site.of the present buildinci but which was
destroyed by fire in 1863. While rebuilding,
they occupied the ' Jifkin building,' ote• Penn
avenue (afterwards the_post-otlice).
"Since the death of Mr. Burton Kingsbury,
his inter; has been represented by his son,
Mr. Geo 8. Kingsbury. Taking advantage
of .a very betel charter granted by the State
Legislature, it was decided at a meeting , last'
winter to remodel and enlarge: their building
so as to increase their facilities for busin, ess,.
the result of which, decision is flow manifesthig
itself. Hereafter, the old establishment will be
known as The Lackawanna Valley Bark"
successor to Geo. Sanderson h Co., the bank
having perfected its organization by the elec.;
- Soh of George Sanderson, George S. Kingsbury,
X. Gardner Sanderson, Chrzjes DuPont Brock,
and Dr. B. A Squire as directors, with George Sanderson as president; J. Gardner Sanderson,
vice-resident A p ; Georgo 8. Kingsbury, cashier ;
and A . Minor Renshaw, teller. A large amount
of the capital stock has already been subscrib
ed and paid in, and as soon as the return of
their president from his sea-shore visit, it is
their intention to offer to the business commu
nity and citizens of Scranton an l opporttufity to
subscribe to a further increase.. On the 'first
of this month the accounts of the old firm were
transferred to the books of the new bank,
which thus commences a bushiess already es

of the money of people who tak6 the cars at
this point, by erecting some kind of a shelter
