AFNTE3 FOR kiitert. --Look through
the heads of the_fruit trees and see if
there are any cocoons or excrescences
on the branChee , ; if so, take them off
and burn them - at once, or the warm
sunshine will produce in them living
insects, to prey upon the tender
foliage as it expands and check the
growth and prodactivness of the tree:
A wash of suds made of carbonic
acid, soap and water should be ap
plied to the stem and lower branches
of the tree with a stiff brash, to des•
troy the larvie of Bach insects as may
have made a lodgement in the inter
stices of the bark. A bealthy tree
should present a clean, bright., smooth
bark. Remove ail grass within one
foot of the stem and keep the suit
porous. The above remarks will
apply equally well to grapevines.
Horses cults and cattle that have
not been well curried and kept clean
through the winter, especially if not
well fed, will not present a very shag
gy appearance; the coat will be harsh
the skin hard and tight, probatitt
infested with vermin. A few appli-
cations of coal oil will remove the
vermin, and some cake meal in they
fooP. will loosen the skin, making i
soff and pliable ; give one quart
;day for two or three weeks, an -
Meantime apply the curry-comb an'
brush. Farm horses that have beer
kept on hay through the winter
should now have some grain added'
tic) their food to strengthen them fm,
their approaching labor, meanwhil
they should have some exercise ever%
day ;- this should not be 'done by
turning therri loose to play, whit'
subjects them to serious accidents,
but by riding and driving, which not
only gives them exercise, but accus
toms them to being handled and
keeps them under proper control.

Mug. Many limbs are lost for wan,
of such care. Every' flock master
should take a pride in having' his
flock look well; this can only, be ac
complished by personal attention
which will'always pay. Never forge,
the dollar interest in all farm stock,
operations. A farmer should take an'
account of his live stock every month,
or at farthest three months, 'putting
money value on every animal accord
ing to the itiling prices :it the time.
This will show hun how much capital
he has in live stock, and whether it
is incl., acing or decret.sngf 'rom time
,to time. It will also make him_ more
'careful to keep rip its money value
by proper care and attention ; it will
also afford him much additional
pleasure. When looking at its team
of horses Le is at once struck with
their cash value as per inventory,
$6OO. When looking at. his herd of

Sheep, $2.00, at his herd of swine,
$2OO, of his poultry, $lOO. ; Here is
nn aggregate-of $3,100 according to
his own assessment which, if put to
interest at 6 per cent. would net
hitu4slB6, but by coU'verting the
grass,*hay.and grain, growing on his.
farm should net him in cash and
manure at least one hundred per
cent. If farmers would adopt a
mercantile system of accounts, - they
would succeed better and always
have the satisfaction of knowing how
matter's st.ocd and regulate their
expenses' accordingly. dmeriean
