" What's the matter with A. a et*. Co., they don't advertise any. Guess they aro played out," said a friend of ours, not long since. V. Rlt., and tells his readers what, he knows about ties acenety, etc., along the line of the popular road : "This road is peculiarly situated, running along the Lehigh Valley on the tow -path of the old Pennsylvania Canal, (now abandoned), which made it easy of construction--the tow path on one Aide and the North - Branch of the Susquehanna on the other—until we reach the Lehigh Valley river, and further south the Delaware river. No.nne is adepiate to decribo the scenery alorg this road; it is peculiarlygrand, and while the traveler Is Weary he can, by looking out of the plate-glass arewing room. ecir window, see winch to interest , him, and, if appreciative of fine scenery, can while away the time very rapidly. At this time' of the year, when Nature is so , lavish of her charms, and when frequent sticiwers are so 1b =dant, this valley welcomed us in her brightest summer garb. Was ever grass so green or foliage so bright before, as clothed these rounded slopes and crooked curves? No monotonous red glare ur uniform dull mist, but the sunshine which lights up the country we are dashing through, is set off by background of flm.cyClonds in the distance, with golden edges towiard the sun, and dark shadows behind ; and see over yon der, where you !wive just come from, only four miles distant, and bad to come twelve miles to get here, up a grade averaging ninety-Six feet, and in some places, 21-1 feet to the mile. The place we refer to is the Wyoming Valley, where , you see scattered ,about the beautiful- valley. many villages. The largest are Wilkes-Barre, Pittston, South Wilkes-Barre, and many Othepi. One can hardly realize that we have just pass- 1 ed along beside these villages, going now in a psrallelline to them only three or four miles distant. Aud see over yonder a Summer show •er is falling, while hero the landscape is danc ing in golden light. People talk about the wonders of the old world ; surely the wonders at home are greater. We were kindly invited by the Superintendent, Mr. Mitchell, to ride on the engine while ascending the mountain. It was of no particular interest, ruitil you arriv ed at diminished speed near the, top of the mountain; when, as we have said, jiiew beauties presented themselves, marvelous to behold. Either side of us,. far as the deep: blue moun tains could be camped, and "nearer by the green mountains would loom up, while still nearer the highlands. partly covered with Woods andinterspersed with tilled lands and the ripening crops, all lent such beauty to the scene. Awav up there so high, with the after noon simlight shining , brightly down on the golden grain nearly ripe for the harvester, while here and there deep shadings were rest ing, and the fresh green of the woods combined with the low land, with many vilhiges and val leys. and extending over thousands of acres and as far as the eye can reach. All these dif ferent and - inteesting views tend l make the ti appreciative beholder glad that h has taken l this unique route to the place of, is destina tion." 1 I)eared kist week It.be -apparent snccess iirrsnted by the I;tni lisliers are to 11 .
