Mr We are under obligations to
Dr. ram, of the Journal, and J. W. Bums,
ter courtesies extendod while making a short
sojourn in Corning last week. Wsuascrrow's
handsome mildew*, the new $OO,OOO school
bonne, and the Glass and Water Works, wore
visited and examined. The three latter insti
tutions- aro just what we Want tore. The
"Dickinson !Immo" Is a good hotel, and com

nadod Col. A. G. Maws, S. W. Ar.roan and N.
C. Ersttnitz, Esq., on the occasion of their visit
to this place last week. Tho band is one of the
best in this section, and their fine music was
heartily enjoyed by oar Catikelni and'oaP,oalailY
by those who were honored by hearing them at
their residences. 'We hope to hare the pleas
ure of seeing and hearing them often.
1:19,.. But little business WAS trans
acted in Court last week.
The most important case tried .was VANDER
MAUS VS. WARD. This was an action brought
by Wu. VANDER3AR6 against JOIDS 0. Wenn,
to recover damages for an injury to his minor
son, received some two years shmo by being
thrown from a running horse, which plaintiff
claiMed Maw had induced the boy to ride.
Verdict for plaintiff for $525.

"Travel and Art,".vrill bo exhibited in 3ler-
CUr's Hall for one week, commencing to-morrow
evening. This exhibition is everywhere spoken
of as one of the best ever presented to the pub
lic. The Trilaune , says of it:
" The securtey of the foreign views—which,
indeed, even to the untraveled eyo, have a
strking air of yeti-similittide-4s immediately
recognized by those who have roamed over the
continent of Inrope. To see them, therefore,
is, in a certain sense, to reap the• benefits of
travel without enduring its cares" and annoy
ances."
sue. W. T. DAVIES, Esq.; has his
new residence nearly completed. In addltiOn
to being, one of the handsomest dwellings in
Towanda, it has al: the modern imprirrementa
and conveniences of water, gas, etc. The
side arrangements could hardly be imprcrrod;
and give evidence that an experienced and skill
inl architect has planned them. H. L. Leta
arcs made the . plans, and has superintended
the work trod , th&-commencement of the foun
dation. It is needless to add that Mr. D. is en
tirely saasfied with the manner in which the
work has been executed.
