EAsttn EGGS.—The little ones are
already anticipating their Easter eggs. Below
we give some recipes for preparing them, taken
from &ribner's Monthly for April:
"First, then, you select your dyes—vegeta
ble or wood dyes they should be blue, crimson,
yellow, acoording to fancy—an d, procuring a
small portkm of each from a druggist, you p la ce
them in separate vessels. Then dropping the
eggs into hot water for a few moments, you
draw on the shell with a bit of tallow any de
sign you please—:names, dates, leaves, crosses.
The tallow prevents any discoloration in the
spot it covers, so when the egg has been sub
mitted to the boiling dye, the pattern, appears
in white on-a tinted ground with very pretty ef
fect.
"Another diethod, more laborious but infi
nitely more arrtistic, is to dye the whole egg,
and afterward scrape out the pattern with a
sharp pen-knife. This way admits of a greater
range of taste and skill than the other. The
egg may be divided into compartments, each
holding some tiny vignette, a landscape per
haps, or an angel, or cupid, or a line of verse,
with the date, all framed in solid, bright color.
In old days, eggs treated after this fashion, did
duty as.valentines, and were fregaently preserv
ed in the after-homes of the happy pairs, each
egg carefully enshrined in a deep, long stemm
ed-wine-glass, through which the inscription
could be read without removing it.
" 'Golden' eggs, which are covered with thin
sheets of leaf gold, are beautiful things when
mixed with others; A cheap way of making
'them is to use the dye; of the furze-blossom,
which is said to communicate a fine yellow col
or.
"Any boy or girl, clever at drawing, can pro
duce, with little trouble, variety of designs
which shall have the added merit of originality.
What could be prettier than a knot of Easter
flowers, snow-drops, violets, or lilies of the val
ley, painted in water color on the white shell,
orslietched gracefully and lightly . in sepia or
India= k. Pencil drawings are' singularly soft
and prat:VA . :in the same pure bakkground, and,
set with boiling water are not easily defaced.
A monogram in-bright, illuminated tints and
gold is also effective; its short, there are &dozen
charming fancies which will at once suggest
themselves to The mind of.any yoting'artist who
begins to think upon the subject, and we advise
such by all means to try."

Mr Some ono writing from this

Odd Fellowship, gives the following interesting
items in regard to the Order in Bradford earn
.
"It affords me much pleaisure to Inform you
of the condition of Odd Fellowship in. his tidal
ty. If I recollect right yos formed an opinion,
and expressed it, too; when yon visited us last
July. _ Valley Lodge, No: IW, of Sheshequin,
which at that tithe had just been rest:reefed,
now numbers ono hundred and ten good work

"Bradford Lodg e, - No. 167, of this place, now

moving along barmonionste, and believe its
efforts to " &atomize the world" are not "wast

and sect, certainly appear to be banished from
within our fraternal circle. For the relief of
the distressed we always have an open hand.
When the wail of our unfortunate brothers. of
Chicago and the Northwest reached our ears,
our Lodge immediately forwa(ded the sum of
arm hundred and twenlyAre dollars for their
relief. I believe that is the largest sum con
tributed by any Subordinate Lodge in this ju
risdiction, which contains upwards of seven
hundred Lodges.
"There is a fair prospect of two or three pew
Lodges being organized in this county ere long,
which contains seven already. - .The enterpris
irig members of our Lodge, who live at Barclay,
sixteen miles distant, are already erecting a
Lodge building, after the completion of which
they will proceed. to organize a new Lodge. I
"The Daughters of Rebekah are also entitled
to a word in this connection. Leah Lodge, No.
"A is in a very healthy and flourishing condi
tion. Although a few "old fogies" have en
deavored to bar its progress, declaring that
"no good could come out of Nazareth," especi
ally if our household gods were . connected with
It, yet all obstacles have been surmounted, and
I believe and trust that its pruner onward will
be uninterrupted. During the past winter we
have had many pleasant and agreeable meet
ings. Frequently, after the Lodge business is
concluded, the members repair to the residence
of some enterprising brother, where a few
,hours are pleasantly whiled aw ay in the enjoy
ment of innocent recreation, sociability, and re
freshments of a wholesome nature. The last,
but not least, of these social gatherings took
place last evening at the residence of Bro. S. -
W. Emory. Brother and Sister Emory contem
plate moving in the country a abort distance,
hence the members of the Lodge took that op
portunity to meet with them before they left.
Universal goal feeling reigned, and every one
declared that they had spent a pleasant and
profitable evening.

isg-The entertainment given by
the students of the Susquehanna Collegiateln
stitute in licreur's TEall, on Friday evening last,
was a very pleasant affair, and was enjoyed by
a largo audience. The students acquitted them
selves well, and were highly applauded by their
auditors.
The performance opened with a chorus, "Joy,
joy, happi are we," by a large number of the
younger scholars. Next came a recitation by:
AasA Dzmum, "The Stranger in the Pen,"
which was admirably rendered. Then follow-•
od a charade in , several parts; each character
was well sustained, and the performance was
closely watched from beginning to end. " The
.Camberland," a declamation, containing a
graphic; description of the destruction of the
Cumberland by therrebel .iron -clad, Merrimac,
was delivered in an eloquent and. statesmanlike
manner by D. Lzozaan Pnarr. Tho cantata,
"The Crown of Deward," sung by about a doz
en of the young ladies, was very pretty and im
presaive. Miss Con% Bann.rrr deserves espe
cial mention for the grace- and majesty ,with:
which she performed her part. Mr. J. P. Km.
SEC delivered a declamation on STANTON, In his
usual easy and graceful manner.
Little DOLLA PASSAGE, one of the brightest lit
tle girls in the school, recited " Chickey's Mis
take," in a manner which would have done
credit to many of the older girls. Miss Lots
Disnuow recited a very difficult poem, entitled
the "Brave Man." This. piece was admirably
rendered, and received with much satisfaction
by the audience. The comic dialogue, "'Edito
rial Felicities," was very well performed. The
principal characters were ACTIMII Ilrw, Jon it
W. CODDECG and Prof. BEIIKIIABT.
MABEL Dmtcz recited "Six Years Old," with
as mach ease and self-possession, as if she had
bsen sixteen. EDWARD MILLS declaimed on
"Nature and Science." Mr. M. is one of the
most earnest and eloquent speakers to be fourid
among our young men, and on this occasion
fully sustained his high reputation.
We had almost forgotten to mention one of
the most interesting features of the, entertain
merit, which'was the performance of the Calis
thenics Class. The manner in which-they went
through the various exercises showed conclu
sively that they had been well instructed, and
had profited thereby.
Prof. -..rkSTAEC^, i-.. .and Miss NETTIE _Passom
presided at the instrument and furnished ex
cellent music, which addc , l much to the enjoy
ment of the occasion. The exercises closed
with a parting song by the school.
The order and thoroughness with which the
students acquitted themselves on this occasion,
must have convinced all of the great benefit to
our town of the Collegiate Institute. Each de
partment is under the supervision of an experi
enced teacher, who gives his or her attention
entirely to the studies pursued in•that depart
ment. The Principals are gentlemen of Large
experienco and understand thoroughly both
the theory and practice of teaching. The nett
term commences on Monday next, and we ear
nestly urge upon those who have children toad.

" Helix° Go - Wrsr."—Forty years
ago, Illinois was as far West as moat people
wished to go, and journeys were made in the
legendary "Prairie Schooner," but in these
days of Progress and Improvement, the word
West has come to mean lowa, Nebraska, Kan
sas, Colorado, California and the' Territories,
and the Traveler reaches almost any point
therein by a splendid Line of Railroad.
This Line of Railroad is the Burlington Route,
which starts from Chicago over the Chicago,
Burlington k Quincy R. R., from Indianapolis
liver the Indianapolis, Bloomington k Western
short Line, and from Logansport,- over the To
ledo, Peoria d Warsaw R. R., and running three
Beritr.voTos, reaches Omaha, Lincoln, Nebras
a City, St. Joseph, Atchison, Leavenworth and
Kansas Cityoronnecting with the Union Pacific,
Kansas Pacific and other Railroads retnial.4
from those cities.
Always go " By way of Burlington," and you
will be sure to be right.
The Burlington Route has sal:nimbly answer
ed the question, "How to go West?" by - the
publication of a trutlifnl and interesting docu
ment, tilled with tuts in regard to Time, Con
nections, i‘ceommodations, rates of fare, and
other interesting items, and ilinstrated by a
large map, truthfully showing the whole West,
which they distribute free of charge. Copies
