The iinpreme Lodge, at its s's , iyn hill in
Philadelphiti in April last, adopted a series of
resolutions in regard to the 0. •11. S. (which
had been adopted by that kids. at its bessiou iu
New York in -.larch, 1S70), an Which was, from
the time of its ad)ption, the cam ., ,• of dissemiion
rind trouble in the order.. •
tin sc resolutions the ritual has - - been
amended, and, 1 think, in so satbAletery a man
ner that no brother Who ha's the welfare of the
order at heart ean . sai" - willohjert to the amend
ment. It is butitsimple pledge that the mem
bership will noVeontieet 3 themselves, with any
body or organizatiori_claiming - to In, a higher
branch or side'degree of the order, unless un
der-the centre!, guicliaoSo or and fhlly recogniz
ed as such by the Supreme Lodge, and that
they are hot at the time of taking such tasty
pledge a member of any such organization.
The principle contained in this new pledge Of
.honor is certainly a correct (Me and the only
regret - is that it kid not been originally insert
ed in our ritual. - Its adoption at the present
time will, it is believed, correct. all the errors of
the put and bring about harmonious feeling,
It is scaicelv necessary.for me, at the present
itime, to call your attention to the fact that I,
in connection with the other Grand Lodge of:1-
eers, complied with the requirements .of the
Supreme Lodge. The various subordinate
lodges in the State have been officially. notified
of the same by circular lulled under the seal of
the Grand Lodge, dated lime 6,1871..-.11.nd, ea
your Grand Chancellor, I fervently express the
wish and hope that every member of the order
will see to it that the regairements of the Su
preme Lodge, ire this respect, that is, in-asking
that the new pledge, Cr 0. B. N., besubstribed
to, be complied with, as it will evidently. tend
to restore peace, harmony and brotherly love
once more among us. -
Possibly the action of the Grand Lodge ofii
core, in complying witlithereqnirements of the
Supreme Ledge, in regard to this new 0. B. N.,
end in submitting to an installation by the Sn
promo Chancellor, assisted by other members
of the Stunreme Lodge; after they had Leon in
stalled by the retiring Grand Chancellor, at the
last annual session of the Grand Lodge, may
receive the cenenre of some in the Order. But
when we remember Alio action of the Grand.
Lodge at the same session, in indorsing the an
nual report of my - predecessor, it would seem
that they had no other coarse to .pursue. in
that report, the late 9. C. uses the following
language, viz : "Itomerhber that we are not in
a position of insubordination to,
all
supreme
authority, but that we concede all power given
by - the constitution and usages of our Order to
the Supreme Lodge—that the Supreme Lodge,.
as a body, have not acted upon, or passed judg
ment upon, thesition that the Grand Lodge
has assumed. Vo are, therefore, In honor
bound to await, and in no manner disregard
our obligated duty in matters not in dispute."
Again, in the same report he Faye: "We cannot
expect, and it is not in the range of possibility
to expect, the Supreme Lodge to forego its in
her'ent right to adopt and regulate the onalifl
cstions of its own members, or the, members of
• Grand Lodges, etc."
