went, and judging from the number of heels,
soles and - taps we saw laying around, keeps
busy. In this department the work is all done
by machinery. After the boots aro bottomed
they are handed over, to the tini tiers, who put
them in condition for casing. We had almost
forgotten - to mention that W. 0. Lcosit has
charge of.theOrimplng department, and that
IZROT WOODIIVYF also occupies a bench in the
establishment. These gentlemen have both
been employed by Messrs. limn-rifles ever
since they commenced liminess here. -
The quidity of won heretofore made by
Ilemenary.l3norazna, is too well known to
need any commendation from ns. Their boots
and shoes are as staple in this State, as Dynes
are in New York. Among the cases of goods
we saw' marked and ready fur shipment, were
several for Elmira, N. Y., and elsewhere. ..We
were informed by the gentlemanly proprietors
that their orders are now in excess of •the sup

work to fill all orders:
01. 1 1TVARY.—Dr.!OSErLI STEVENS,
'who had 'been a resident of this place since
March last, died at the residence of his father,
Gen. Srr.wr.:•s, in Lancaster, Mass., on Monday,

During the few months that Dr. STEVENS
Practiced his plofession our midst, 1.1;;' won
the confidence adnrimtion and respect of all
with whom he was acquainted, by his-'culture,
scholarly attainments, medical sun, and. Buda]
qualities. As a. member of the Masonic: and
Odd Fellows fraternity, he stood high, and his
demise has called froin those orders approcia

The docoaied served his country with distin

bellion._ It may •Ge truthfully written : every
position in an eventful life, both public and pri

ability.
He leaves a wife and one child, ou whom this
bereavement falls with a lieavy hand, besides
a numerous circle of zrlatives and friends to
whom he was endeared by all the generous and
noble qualities which make np and constitute
an lionrst man.
In every relation of life, 1)0 ct. .. Srsxr..xs pos

friendship. Those to whom he was best known
were always his most warmly attliched
,friendr.
His pride and pleasure was to meet and give
generou hospitality to his friends. Ho was a
man of strong convictions, fervent un t pulses,
high in inded, open=handed , generous and
tkttthfnl; and in the practice of his profession,
skillful, tender and assiduous. His death has
created in the community wlogrx he last rosid
