No one inanare a the feet woulde guessed

pared sago smoothly, with not. one jar !ran
apetsingia dame. .
litre. 0. A. Itaussu as Queen Esther, looked
the Tart most saceesendly—every inch Squeal,
her tine sopranir voice under such perfect con
trol, exciting the entWelasm and admired= oi
all. Mr. Tang Met l= as Monlwal, sequit
ted himself with great credit. De..lconarat is
King Aluisuerns, Bzwor es Hartxraah, fit:arras
High Priest, all bore their part with extellent
tas+e, both in' the action and melody of the
pew. Mrs. Maw MLR= as Haman% wik,
and Miss WOODRDIET as Prophetess, on the
commendation all by the artistic manner .in
which they presented their". resprays° parts.
Too Much praise cannot be given to the Ludes
representing the ChILISCWII of. the Maids of
Honor of Queen Esther and Haman's wife. To
say they did right well, is not to say Wigwag's..
We do not mention Other names, but we may
without fear of either beingruraiurad of a desire
teipresent this in too Battering a light, or a
being contradicted by . any One, that their pre
sentation this musical treat to our people was
a grand success. Wo base never known a mote
pleased mildew° than the one that separatek
going their several wars, after the conclusion
of the ere're entertainmebt. • -
......ano_nutobriredit cannot be given to the la
dies and gentlemen who have given their time
- and taignti for the. enjoyment of our people.
The object for which the bads were given was
in the highest degree creditable, sir : to the
Franklin Wawa, No, 1. The lair?, audience
present—the Hall war more than fall—was a
tilting tribute to the Association and to the Fire
Company; and of this large audience there was
not one, we sentare to say, di appointed other
wise tired favorably'.
This'exhibition has vindicated the truth that
here among oar own people we have inimical
ability, which, being brourht together, can give
us entertainments second to none in the coun
try: The old saying that "A bird thatcartsittg
and won't sing, should be made to silig,"onght
to bo , put in force here. The public desire
of this good . thing. Music ennobles, ts
and emtivater' every people. We need more of
its culture here. The success of this Choral
Association iu their first effort should leatlthern
to further efforts.
Every one with good voice, taking part in en
tertainments., of this nature, is a missionary
whose mission is, to: reep the world from the
dangerous tu spoken of by Snarsezanz
"The ma io as no music hildruself.
Nor is not mor tb concord of sweet souuds,
Ia St for Leeson, stratagems and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dill as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.
Let uo such man be trusted!"
All persons may not become good singers or
turtisicians,.but every person can be educated in
a greater or less degree to the appriciation and
enjoyment of music.
This piano was presided uvrr with) character
istic ability by Miss Mown. •
' The choruses were a success in every respect.
The costumes, most of which—except for ; lead
ing parts—were made by the ladies themselves,
evinced the fact that singing was not the only
talent they possessed, as they were gotten up
in most excellent *taste.'
The Jusa.ciation consists of about 5J mem:,
hers. The able leadership of the conductor,G.
T. Coils, was proven by its success. Mr. Coxt
presented the character of Haman most effec
tively. • •
• Ladies and gentlemen of the Towanda Choral
Association, we ask in behalf of the public, that
we may have the pleasure of again listening to

RED /tiff COAL.—This coal 1.-quires
less draft than the hardest white ash coils. and
burns freely and all up clean—leaving hect,'2J,
red ashes, of less bulk than those of any other
coal. It will particularly please those . house
keepers who hive been using soft or Barclay

I would be pleased to hive the citizens of To
