Yitchievous Old Errors.
In the midst of change, .iniprove

' qUestionable old. notions con ti nue to
be -followed, even now, when the very
erroneous character of some of them
has —been generally acloioiv . ledged.
Of thi's character is the ri g id adher

less and injurious rule of old times,
the check-rein. Its use with draft
Bones is positively cruel. When a
horse is drawing 'a heavy load, and
particularly up hill, he needs the ut
most freedom of lungs and wind, and
this he can never have with a tight
ehek-rein. That the cheek-rein pre

than doubtful; on the contrary, by

CONCAVE CONVEX, CRYSTAL LENSES, LONDON
tO:OSED AND TINTED OLSFS FOII WEAN 00 IN
The Cducave Convex. Cry . stal Spectacles, mado - by
the above institute are now a long time before the
public, and the rapid and increased demand for them
combined with the universal acknowledgment of
their elearnesain vision and ease to the eye, shows
plainly that they are superior to any other glasses
in the market.
The majority of Spectacles, (mostly imported) and
no matter how fine the frames, contain but a poor
and worthless article of glasses, (generally cast or
pressed* they are made to be sold only. without
nay calculation reenecting benefit to the eye, and
therefore the great complaint of poor and weak
sight. Thousands are using glasses now which tiro
and fatigue the eye, where the objects get dim after
short usage, or require an inteifitely strong light
and therefore destroying the sight, which, were they
properly suited, would be preserved a life time.
The advantages Claimed for' the Concave Convex
Crystal Glasses are the following :-
The Lenses are grouncLof the best material, pure
and bard, stud made only for optical purposes, they
are therefore not liable to get scratched or dim.
They-confer a brilliancy and distinctness of vision
not found in any other glass.
They can be used equally well by day or candle
light without tiring or fatiguing the eyes.
They are ground mathematically true in the con
cave convex mirror, according to the philosophy of
nature, and shape ..of cornea of the eye, therefore
emitting nature only instead of forcing it.
That the lenses are centered correct into the frames.
They can be used longer than any other glasses
without changing to a higher power.
The frames ore made strong and durable by expe
rienced workmen and warranted to give satisfaction.

cou-E,
LET US REASON TOGETHER!
llow can any person manufacture Confectionery,
and sell it at 1,5 cents a ppand, when sugar Is worth
16 cents at the Refinery. (unless it fis terribly adul

•
Bois can any dealer retail such a 410 compound to
his customers and have a conscience void of offence?
How can any consumer expect to purchase pure
Confectionery at twenty-five and thirty cents per
pound when a pure article cannot to manufactured
less than thirty-to forty cents per vmnd, consisting
of cassia buds— burnt almonds ; ind such class of
goods? • • ' •
Within a few days we have been offered cassia
buds, etc., for fifteen cents per pound, and Choco
late Creams .at twenty cents, and the agent acknow
