Your committee appointed to examine Mr.
TAYLOR'S MS. History of Bradford County,
would report that they have performed that due
tv and find Mr. TAYLOR'S plan' to be
-Ist, A general history of the county, which is
followed by sketches of each township and bor
ough, an-anged alphabetically. .
Under the first head, the general history of
the county, Mr. T. hasAnoted at length from
the journal of Coxitao WEissaa, the account of
Set.Liyxx's campaign in 1779, and other docu
ments of this sort. The extent of such quota
tions is a matter upon which the committee feel
great delicacy in expressing an opinion, except
to say, that the size of the book is largelyin
creased by contaiuing matter which has no lo
cal interest. .
The township sketches are, for the malt part,
defective and very unsatisfactory, and Colltaßl
misstatements of fact, of dates, Ac. There are
also numerous grammatical and rhetorical de
tects which would - sadly mar the printed page.
Altogether, while Mr. Txxi.on has labia foun,
dation, and gathered some valuable material,
the work has ,by no means reached that state
of completeness width ought to be dignified by
toe history of Bradford county. Could the-318.

as a failure, and the supply of the whole coun
try will fall much below the uimal vtandard.
The Cimitnissimier of Agriculture now estimates
that thw yield this year will be forty-eight mil
lions of bushels less than that of leo. New
Jersey, 31aryland, Delaware, Wisconsin, Mune-

biss, while in Georgia, Alabama, Tormesiste, 7 and
a few other States, them beat crop is better than
it was feet year. The relative ileereiole of the

circumstances, together with the war in Eu

el. Shoutil the war between France mid Prus
sia continue, there islnit little doubt that all
kinds of breadstuffs.will be enhanci il hi vabie,
and consequently wheat, which is the principal
staple, will command a much higher figure
than pkeseut quotations. Under any cirentu
statice s, in view of the shortness of the crop,
we cannot sgt• how it can fall much below pres
ent rates, with every prospect I,r a decided rise.
In our jnagment, farmers would do well not to
dbipose of their grain at this time. The hay I
crop, which is really of More value than all the
wheat that is raised, however good may have
'been the yield, is the hea:viest eyed - gathered in
this section of the State. For the part it
was of good quality, and well mired The corn
is not yet matured, lint snfileiently advanced to
insure quite a good crop. NotwithStariding the
hotgweather we have experienced,. vegetation
has'not suffered from drought, and the corn;
although planted late, has: come on finely. It
now presents a beantifid dark green color,
which at once denotes ahealthy, vigoronsplant.
-The potato crop is equally promising, and from
present indications, we ishitilliave an abundance
or this highly prized and almost indispensable
esculent. The early varieties. have - been both
large in size, and excellent in quality. We have
not heard any complaint of the rot, so prem.,
lent in ninny past seasons. The later varieties,
from their thrifty appearauee;give equal prom
ise ; the recent hot weather does not appear to
have injured them, as-there was sufficient alas
tore in the ground to preserve the vigor of the
plant. We have not been afflicted
' with any se

for cattle has been both abundant and ;good.
The supply of small fruits, Null as straWbrerries,
