DENTAL SOCIETY MEETING.—The
Susquehanna and-Bradford Dental Society held
its third semi-annual session at the office of W.
W. SMITH, in Montrose, Sept. 14.
Dr. C. S. Dossminny, of Legaysville, was
chosen President for the ensuing year.
A committee —.vas appointed, consisting of
Drs. W. W. Siarrit and J. K. NEWELL, to prepare
a list of prices for, dental work, subject to action
of the meeting ;-4-th instructions to report at
the evening se#l, after which several essays
were road. One by the Pregidaut, on the rela
tions which the dental profession do and should
sustain towards the public, giving many hints
and - suggestions valuable to the public and den
tists. By a subsequent resolution it was re
quested far publication. Another by Dr. KEL
" Mechanical Dentistry," was replete with
valuable information.
Tho first snhjoct discussixl, was tho " treat
ment of esposod turves." This was ably dis
cussed by Dra. H. Wr-srox and Kam; of To
wanda, J. R. Nrwra.t., of Wyalusing, and sever
al others.
By request, D. IiNITH gave in detail his mode
of devitalizing pulps, subsequent treatment, and
Bust filling of nip eieth.
Dr. KEus stated that instead of destroying
the pulps, heview invariably saved them - alive,
by treatment, Bit.' capping with isi-artiaLial,
and then filling i:a permanent and durable
manner. Drs. Swim and NIiWELL aNO stated
that they had pursued the same course for sev
eral years with the saint , satisfactory results.
Finishing gold fillings received a share of at
tention, and was n'ily discussed.
A discussion " 3lechnnical Dentistry" fol
lowed, participated in by all Rau members.
Difficult cases in this linos+ of 110T1113tif wore
presented by Drs.. sod .tiewELL, in order
to get the opinions of others in regard tothem,
winch were freely given, and much information
elicited, valuably M all. During the discus
sion rubber was syver.dy condemned, and the
resehiti.e. adopted At a former meeting, of dis
carding its use altogether, was re-affirmed. In
asmuch as nearly all present had substituted
Aluminum and " Weston's Metal" for rubber,
and in considerabon of their evident - superiority
over it, Dr. DI.:01:N11 — ItY of oreil the following as
the sense of thy n, . -ring, which was naanireons
ly adopted :
"That the meni . ..w .1. this Society express
themselves as moro !Ilan pleased with the use
of ' Weston's Metal' in place of rubber, and feel
themselves under lusting obligations to Dr.
Worrox in enabling them to throw off the op
pressive yoke of-the Rubber Company.'
Care and treattneat of the temporary teeth
thou engaged the attention of the meeting for
a short time.— It was conceded by all who took
part in the discussion, that .thoy should be re
tained as long as pOssible, almost invariably, in
order that the jaw might expand to its proper
proportions, thereby giving room for the erup•
lion of the permanent teeth. in regular shape.
The indiscriminate extraction of temporary
teeth by physicians, and also by some dentists,
was severely condemned.
That very hnnoying and sometimes almost
insurmountable obstacle to good operations,Ot
ton mot with by the dentist, "Sensitive Den
tine,', was next brought up. Each gave his
mode and manner of overcoming the difficulty,
sumo of Which were new to most of the mem
bers, and all were edified and instructed by the
discussion.
At the evening tu , :.sion, after discussing and
finally adopting the report of the committee on
prices, the time and place of holding the next
meeting came up for decision. iVyalusing was
the place, and the first Tuesclay in June was the
time agreed npou.
Afterward, various matters interesting to the
members were talked over, and at , a seasonable
hour the members separated,' all expressing
themselves highly pleated and instructed, hop
ing that we may have many similar meetings.

sold by W. D. t Co. are really the only Aeri
