What is the Condition of your Cellar. Is it damp, close, filled 'with disa greeable odors, proceeding frOm ger minating or decaying vegetables? If so, it is high time you gave the mat, ter your earnest attention ; for you Laic in that locality the germs of diseise, and yourself and family are liable to be "prostrated at any mo ment. You think your cellar or.base ment is in good sanitary condition do 'you know that it is? Have you fairly and carefully exalmined the premises-? Have-'you looked over the potatoes, turnipsy,,squashes, and other vegetables, to ascertain their ea*ndi ti9lN We'lmow that diphtlieria,.;ty phoid and scarlet fevers, and litany other most serious illnesses have their origin in cellars, both in city and country ; and we can do our readers Ile greater service than to urge them t , , see that at all times, they are in a dry, sweet, wholesome . condition. Why should farmers' families, living in the country, away from the pesti lential vapors of cities, be so subject to attacks of malignant diseases? There ie a reason for it, and we point it out. They arise from the indifference manifested to the obser vance of hygienic rules, and violation of sanitary. laws. Cleanliness is es sential to health, and is just as neces sary in the country as:in the city. A family living over a foul cellar is more liable to be poisoned and afflict (.,l with illness than a city family living in its polluted atinosphere, but wi'llout 'cellar or basement filled with fe-menting roots and fruits. , There is far more sickness in the country among husbandmen than there ought to be. With plenty of pufe air, wa tpr, and exercise, -the evil 'imp, dis ease, ought to be kept at bay ; and he would be, if a better observance of certain hygienic conditions were maintained. Bad-conditioned cellars, close sleeping-rooms, stoves -1 tly.se are all agents of evil, find are fast making' thc,": homes of farmers almost as unhealthy.. as those of the dwellers in cities.; Are not these sup, gestions worthy lof consideration.— /I‘,4ton Journal of Chemistry. Grass occasionally runs out, and is ghought to require ploughing up and re-seeding. If the 'lilt' could be well kept up in grass, without ploughing, it is a question ‘vh.lher it would-not be more profit .al,l‘ for a dairy farmer, with a good et!! of custom, to buy all his corn, I:, and wheat, instead of raising . .them.
