4grimiturat. (For the Ba&nrceD Itzeorrsz.)- santona iron PAITVaE. ( Continued.) About one-quarter of the seed sown is lost. Deduct, this from the thirty eight millions and we have left- only twenty-eight - arid one-half minions, Or about four Seediiper inch, instead of seven to ten - as !provided by na ture. Who is so foolhardy as to think of sowing one peck each of timothy, red clover, and red-top per' acre I Why, this would be thirty-one pounds to the acre, while our. forefathers used but fifteen pounds. Of , all our. grasses, timothy is the most valua ble .for all uses, while { for pasture alone, it is as good as many others. - Wat we want is more seed and more kinds of seed. Timothy, red-top, red clover, white clover, orchard grass, Kenticky blue grass, rye grass, meadow foxtail, wood meadow grass, are all very valuable as a mixture for pasture lands. If a good pasture is desired, about forty pounds of seed should be sown to the acre: No farm er.- should ever sow less than twenty five to thirty pounds per acre, which will make a good sod, good meadow, and good pasture. Use large red clover ; do not throw away your mo. ney on medium and small. Medium is a humbug, being a mixture of large and small. Examine the seed well before purchasing. The small white clover is very valuable for pasture. There is now in the market a new, large kind of white'clover, caned Al- Bike. This is a Danish clover, and no doubt will prove valuable. It grows about two and one-half feet high, and has a deep, strong rot.t. Its blossoms are like the small--it yields largely of seeds, and makes equally as good hay as any clover, but it is held at sixty dollars per bushel, or one and one-half dollars per pound. Afterweedlng hind well and a good growth obtained, pow about two bushels of plaster to the acre ; not less than two bushelsshoulVe sown if a good crop is desired. Now, that we are so soon to have a good market for butter, it. is to be hoped that the farmers of Bradford will pay More attention to the seed ing of pastures and raising ,the best cattle for dairying purposes. - In my next I will give deseriptions of the best breeds of cattle for milk. Arras Wotuts.—We cull the follow ing facts concerning these intolerable pests, front 'the American Elmologist. It has long been known tiptlor plac ing an old cloth, or anything or that nature, in the crotch of an apple tree, the apple worms may be = decoyed into building their cocoons underneath it, and thus be destroyed wholesale. Dr. Trimble's method—which amounts to the same thing, and has been found to be practically very beneficial—is to fasten two or three turns of a hay band round the trunk of the apple tree, and every few days from the middle of July to the middle of Sep tember, to slip the hay band up and destroy the cocoons that have from time to time formed oft, the bark un derneath it. All authors are agreed as to the prac title importance of picking up and destroying the wormy apples as fast as they fall, either by hog power, or, when that hi inconvenient or impracti cable, by man power. The practical ritiTity of allowing a gang. of hogs the range of the apple orchard through out the summer. When we consider that every female moth that hatches out in July or August, from the first brood of apple worms, will probably deposit an egg in some two or three nearly matured apples, thereby ren dering them more or less unsaleable, the importance of destroying the wormy wind falls—in the front part of the season, at all events—becomes at once app_areM.. Prers.—ln one quart of %boiling milk, stir eight tablesdoonfuls of oval, four of sugar, boil five min utes, stir constantly, when cool, add Nis eggs well beaten, bake in butter cups one half hour. To be eaten with maple molasses or other sauce to snit the taste. 'INDIAN Star Jeca. 7 —One quart o milk, one pint of Indian meal, four eggs, four spoonsful of flour, a little = salt. Beat together and bake on a griddle. SAGE AND ONION ..'SAucE.-Chop fine an ounce of onion and half an onace of green sage leaves, put thdm into a stew pan with four spoonful of wa ter, simmer gently for ten minutes, then put is a teaspoonful of pepper And salt, and one ounce of bread 'crumbs, mix well together ; then ,our it into a gill: of melted butter _(or both or gravy), stir well and aim• cner• it- a few minutes longer. LEMON SAUCE. —Pear a lemon and cut it into slices twice as thick as a half a dollar ; divide that into dice, and put them into a gill of melted butter. Lows DGMPLING.—Giie pound of flour half a pound of sugar, juice of three lemons, grated rind or two, chop half a pound-of stilt, mix all together with a little water, make out in dumplings, and boil' constantly for one huor. To' be eaten with any kind of rich sauce. WAFFLES.-With two fresh eggs, half a pound of flour, quarter of a p 'rind sifted sugar, two slices of but ter melted in a little rank, and some drops of range flower water, compose -a batter well mixed, containing no lumps, and which ropes in poring.
