THE CELTEHE OF FLOWERS.-It bits been said that few things -tend to express the character and fortunes of individu ate more than 'the appearance of the window blinds, and the brightness and cleanliness of the windows of their dwellings. Noth ing can be more true ; and we cannel but feel, when this is admitted, .that the same. line of reasoning will be allowed with regard• to-flowers. If we pass by *a house, even though it be in a narrow, confined thorough fare, and see upon its window-sills bright rows of pots filled with gay geraniums and bell-formed fuschias, we suppose that sure ly in that house there must live some one whose mind is not wholly choked up and_ deaderied with cares—one *to whom the links are not yet entirely severed, which bind the heart to.the loveliness of nature, and who still appreciates with a tender care the nweetest and most beautiful of her crea tion. Or, perhaps, our thoughts taking a sudden turn,, may imagine that s ibis lone hearted creature,- who may have been ftl e , tered to his chateber for in maths or years'', by lingering maladies, flies firma his own acking pains and thoUghts, and seeks among those very flowers which seem so gay and indicative ad-youth and happy hearts _to us, a solace rind delight, w simple things like these olen render to the Wretched hearted and weary. Wherever flowers are seen carefnlly tended, we ma' be sure there will-be -found people of a re fined mind. No one who has not a gentle and'a tender heart can truly love ; flowers ; and any' one who really does so, Worships, it may be unconsciously, the Eternal One who formed them. te.. The tone of the instrument is 'richand powertal, with mat 'depth end sweetness. and the whole affairreflects great credit on the well known maker. It is the custom to refurnish the' White Mouse every four years,: and it is always smatter of great competition". between the leading manufac hirers to secure, the contract for the White House piano. The Messrs. Chickering, of Boston, were sue/waste' for aunty yea" but on the woes-. don of President Lincoln, he made choice of a piano from the manufactory of Soho meeker .36 Co., Philadelphia.. This instru- meat, now eight years old, and is still very fine, and has been greatly admired by thou- sands who have touched its delicate keys andlistened to its sweet notes. It will bo removed , i to Philadelphia by the Messrs. .Sithomacker, and placed in their warerooms to be kept as a relic, where the public can .have an opportunity to see and hear it.— Often the departed Lincoln liktensd to its sweet Strains, which no doubt cheered him in his gloomy moments. It has truly be come historic, and a valuable relic it is. For three successive administrations' has Philadelphia teen favored in tarnishing the grand piano for t:ie White House.
