It le also easy, with bees in these hives, to *supply their walla If colony has loolit- Ale honey, it may hive a frame or two of comb, containing honey, giv en to it from one that can spare it. If neither eggs nor brood, in any stage, are found in a hiie the - Ist of March, you. may be: sure the colony is queenless. At that early period it is'not usually best to attempt to supply theTo4:. The frames, bees, and all, may be put with some other that can make room for them. They will not quarrel, bat unite peaceably: Qneenless bees are not disposed to quarrel, and other bees will not trouble them if in this condition. .Too many bee keepers, however, have bees in box-hives or gums.- - With those it is not . easy to do more than guess at their condition, inks one has much experience—lt - 1w - easy to tell if they are doing well; but, if not, it is hard to ascertain the trouble and apply the remedy. If hived are turned up, After smoking the bees a' little to drive them up among the combs, a good -;"guess". can be given at the amount of storeu and the strength of the colony. -If the bottom board is examined every morning, you are almost certain to find eggs, or immature bees under any hive that has a queen. Any col ony.where the bees do not carry in • -pollen briskly in the first warm spring. mornings, should be marked as sus picious, and watched. Queenless hives, and those that contain little honey, are not apt to display energy in gathering pollen. Every worm should be dispatched. Under even the best colonies, some may be found if you take the trouble __to look. When my bees were in box hives, I never omitted looking on the bottom board of each one, every morning, and destroying the warns. Every one left soon becomes a miller, capable of laying many eggs, that become worms very soon—every one destroyed puts an end to four possi ble generations in a single season: Destroy every worm in spring, and you can have no millers hatched in your hives that season: • In localities where willow, - hazel, (Itn end soft maple abound, bees find natural pollen almost as soon as they can fly in the spring. Id other places it is of great ad vantage to place rye meal in shallow vessels near the bees every pleasant day, as a substitute for pollen. They gather it eagerly, and rear brood much earlier for having it. If no stream or brook is near your bees, provide them with water in some way; they need it specially in spring, • and many are lost if they go far to obtain it.—Rural World. Plants for Hot-beds As thb hot-bed is necessarily lim' ed in extent, some choice must be ex ercised in regard to the seeds sown, selecting those which it is most de sit able to have mature early in the season. Tomatoe's are very long in coming to perfection, and these should be forced in the hot-bed by all means. There ia_scarcely any garden vege table which requires more patience. in waiting for the fruit, but some necks of waiting May be saved by panting in the hot-bed and careful transplanting in a warm location and' Foil well-prepared tot it. Lettuce is another plant that may o advanced to great profit, especial ly as" this usually requires transplant ing in order to head well. Early cabbage and cauliflower should also N sown. 'The latter may fail alto- 1 gether in some localities, unless it has the advantage of an early start, and even then it must have a rich roil to grow in. Egg plants should also be sown and carefully handled when transplanting. Celery plants may also be prepared in the „same way. Melons, squashes and cicum- Fers, will obtain an early start if planted in a hotbed on inverted sod tAen from a rich soil, and then trans planted by removing the sod without breaking, having one. piece of sod ..with the requisite number of plants to each hill. By such transplanting the growth of the melons will not be stopped. If there is room in the hot bed a crop of radishes may be raised, but not by transplanting. Many other plants may be advanc ed in their growth more or less, ac cording te,the climate of the locality, and one iLlio has had the 'advantage of a hot-bed will • not willingly lose it another season. Paean FOR Oers..—On the Eastern Pennsylvania _Experimental Farm, in Chester county, the oat crop has been very light, but the ;Supeintendent in forms the Practical Farmer he had occasion to born the trimings of his Osage orange hedge along the line of his oat-field.: where the heap was burned, and the ashes spread around, the oats stood up well, with a stiff straw, and a - heavy head, and a su perior quantity of grain. On a neigh bOring nursery where'-they had oc casion to burn a quantity of refuse trees, the same effect was observed on the oats crop to a rather remarka ble extent. The inference to be drawn from these accidental experi ments is, that potash is a special fel.• tilizer for oats, or at. least a require ment in that soil. The analysis of the grain of oats,as well as its straw, indicates also that potash enters largely into its composition. ORME= Came/Lux—This insect - comes and goes—is abundant in - some years, and in others disappears. When the millers or moths have left - their rings or eggs on the shoots of trees, now is the time to destroy ahem. A practiced eye will see al riiost at a single glance if there are any on a tree, by the swelling or knob which one gives to a shoot.— Select_a-solark or cloudy day, or else . h,slay When the sky is entirely clear —avoid the bright donde which will dazzle and hurt the eyes—and cut ':Very shoot which contains the eggs, sod commit them to the fire.
