San ACCIDENT.—We regret to learn
that Mr. Leander Culver, a well Infown and
respected citizen of Balm& was killed by

week. With his hired'man, Mr. Culver was
felling a cucumber tree, which lodged in a

detached from the top, r and falling, struck
Mr. O. on the back of thti, head, crushing in
the skull and rendering him entirely taxon
sciOUS up to his death, which took place
Tuesday morning at 2 o'clock.
We mention, as a singular circamstancer
the fact, that while • son of the deceased
was supporting him in the sleigh, on the
way home from the woods, the former was
.struck by a limb which projected hpIII the
snow and caught in the sleigh, and with
such force as to break • his jaw, and other
wise severely injured him about the face,—
Ilia blow so benumbed the young man that
he itiras not for some time aware of lbs se

Mr. Culver was about 60 years of age,
highly respected by his friends and neigh

She had been seated at Vie table in usual
health as it was supposed, when attempting

CANTON.— Dear RICPORTEIL—Let's
see, where was it I left off ? Was it wherei
had to dry np because I WA:ids-stated the
facts with regard to the new School House?
and also the Mineral Springs ?
From the mildest to the most ferocious of
school house opposers, of one year ago, not
a man can be found to deny the fact which
was then stated that the school house will
cost $8(1 . 00, the only fight now, being upon
the question, whether it shall cost more
thin $9OOO.
The well known and indefatigable "Pare
lizarack, of Williamsport, has purchased
the springs—of course nothing more need
be said about them to any one that knows
"PzTz." 91an that the water of these excel

deservedly so. The wateshas cured hun

HISBDIO will proceed to put - up a large
wooden building at the springs, to be com
pleted by the middle of June n eat, for tem
porary use until something more substan
tial can be erected. Williamsport will how
flier continue to be the County seat of Ly
coming for the pr4ent. Let me advise you
of Towanda, to build a Jail road to Canton,
you can then have the benefit of the waters
and see Herdic House M. 2 occasionally,

Business of all kinds has been dull du

times.
There are two things that we need badly
here, a good hotel and bank. -It seems
that our own citizens can never, take hold
of new enterprises, although they are anti
