fruit and the facilities which now ex
ist for shipping it to distant markets
are inducing farmers to enlarge their
orchards or to plant ..new ones. In

orchards attention stould be given
to the aspect and nature of the soil.
Thorough drainage should be secured.
Some soils are situated on a gravelly
or porous enb-soil ;• and, being thus
naturally drained, do not require the
application of artificial means. Sub-.
soiling is very beneficial in preparing
land for fruit-trees, le it breaks up
the ltard-pan, deepens- -the soil, and
permits the roots to decend to a suit
able • depth without coming in con
*act with stagnant water.
Trim is no danger of.getting too
much fruit, for the demand for the
best qualities exceeds the supply.
Every one loves fruit and but few
have •all of it they desire.
