CHARLES B. SIMPSON;
son of RODENT C. SIMPSON, Esq., of this
village, died in Brooklyn, L. L, February
16, after a protracted and painful illness, at
the early age of 23 years.
Mr. Simpson was a young man of super
ior natural abilities, and by culture had ac
quired fine mental accomplishments. -'His
decease, irr the bloom of young manhood,
cuts short a career which might have been
brilliant and useful, and clouds the hearts
anti hopes of family and friends.
The burial was on Saturday, and attend-.
mi by a large number of , cur citizens.—

Stir The Sunday School Lintitute
held lust Tuesday and Wednesday, in Ath
ens, was highly creditable to the County
Sunday School Aesociutiou, under whose
auspices it was conducted. The addresses
of. Rev. Dr. Nink.s, of Corning, were truly
eloquent and rich in instruction. The
Scripture Models, prepared by Mr.Cnrrrn.w-
LEN, although in an unfinished state, elicit
d much interest and profitable discussion.
The Sunday Schools of the village. in their
session on Wednesday, P. M., acquitted
themselves nobly. It is only due to say
that twe good people of Athens and vicinity
contributed not a little to the success of the
Institute by, their constant attendance and
co-operation.

Tiny ITF.II-.—From the Gazette:—
The barn of Nelson Adams was broken
open on Tuesday night. The back door
was pried open and articles scattered about.
Nothing seems to have been -taken, which
may have been owing to the presence of a
dog and an early alarm;
—We understand that Pomeroy Bros.,rire

of their building burnod on Canton Street.
—The ruins of the Troy House are being
cleared away preparatory to the re-building
of the hotel with brick. Success to the

—Mr. Fuller, of Elmira, has taken the
contract to build the new Hotel at Troy, in
lien of the one lately destroyed by fire. .
—The stage line between Troy and Tow
anda, has passed into the hands of John
Beeman who has put a good hack upon the
road. •
—V. M. Long purchased the American
Hotel in Elmira the other day, intending
to establish himself there, but the peculiar
ly disadvantageous arrangement of the
building and some • minor matters citaed
him to relinquish the project and return to
Troy. We could hardly spare the Judge
from this town, and Troy will hardly be
itself until the Troy House is replaced and
the Judge fills his accustomed place.
—L. Putnam, our livery man ha 4 a little
black mare stolen on Tuesday morning. A
fellow stopping at the Stevens House got
the horse and buggy to go to Towanda, but
has not been seen since. Putnam has gone
in search of the hlrse.

AYER ' S HAIR VIGOR, For. ratorizig
Gray Hair to its natural Vitality alai Calor:—
A dressing which is at once iigre'pible,
health:Y, and effectual for preserving the
hair. Faded or gray hair is' restored io its
original color with the gloss and freshness of
youth. Thin hair is thickened, tailing hair
checked, and baldness often, though not
always, cored by its 1:140.. Nothing can re
store the hair where the follicles are destroy
ed, or the glands atrophied and decayed.
But such as remain can be saved for useful
ness by this application. Instead of fouling
the hair with a pasty sediment, it will keep
it clean and vigorous. Its occasiOnal‘nse
will prevent the hair from turning gray or
falling off, and conseqiiently prevent bald
ness. Free from those deleterious substan
ces which mate some preparations danger
ous and injurious to the hair, the Vigor can
only beniflt but not harm it. If wanted
merely for a hair dressing, nothing else
can be found so desirable. Containing nei
ther oil nor dye, it does not soil white cam
bric, and yet lasts long on the hair, giving it
a rich glossy lustre and grateful perfume..
