NARROW EBOAPR.-AB Mr. TROXAR
kirrriat, of Renick, was returning hots
from this place,'on the 7th inst.; he came
near losing his tee' "ant his own life, by
going off of the York narrows, where the
road is about 300 feet above the canal.—
White passing a snow slide the horses went
off and the sleigh caught against-the end
of a timber which held them fast. Mr. M.
succeeded in unhitching tan separating
them, and by timely assistance succeeded
in getting one of them np into the rout ;
the other was lei down by means of a long
rope as far as possible and then left to slide
into the canal, and 'was rescued without
material injury. We considez this a very
remarkable escape, had not the horses re
mained perfectly quiet till assistance came,
they would hive went to the bottom carry
ing Mr. • , hrss with them. Mr. M. is over
85 roars old.
Is it not time that measures were taken
to hive a railing along this dangerous piece
of road, so that our lives and property:may
not be so often put in ,jeopardy. ,Already
there has been been more' than enough
property lost on this piece of road to pay
the expence of a good iron railirg the whole
distance.
In. Wit. Font), of Mansfield, Pa.,
wanted to use an old bomb shell as a weight
to a door in his grocery. -The bole in the
shell had becOme filled up with dirt, 'and
incredible as it may . seem, Mr. FOLD, iri or
der to clean it, out, thrust a poker elm*
red hot into the opening. A second after- .
wards the supposed empty bombshell e;-
ploded with a loud report which shook the
entire building. Mr. Foal) was streak in
the thigh with a fragment, which pissed,
through, tearing the flesh badly and inflict
ing a severe thorigh not dangerous wound.
Fortunately the bone was not broken.' Mi.
Four was knocked down by the force of the
explosion, and in his fall struck his face
against the corner of the stove, sustaining
a severe cut, which it is thought, will de
stroy the sight of one of his eyes. A pie C e.
of the shell passed through a barrel of oil
that was standing near by, and as the oil
ran out it caught fire, and the utmost diffi
culty was experienced in saving the building
from burning down. All the windows in
the building were shattered. At last ao
counts Mr. Font) was doinins well as could
be expected under the circumstances.

AYER'S HAM VIGOR, ' For reitorPig
Gray Hair to its natural Vi'citify and (bier.—
A dressing which is at once agrreable,•
healthy. and effectual for preserving the
hair. khded or gray hair is restored to its
original color with the gloss and freshness of
youth. Thin hair is thickened,.falling hair
checked, and baldness often, though not
always, cured by its use. Nothing can re
store the hair where the follicles are destroy
ed, or the glands atrophied and decayed.
Bat such as remain can be saved for useful
.ness by.this application. Instead of fouling
the hair with a pasty sediment, it will keep
it clean'and• vigorous. Its occasional use
will prevent the hair_ from turning gray or
falling off, and consequently prevent bald
ness. • Free from those deletenous substan
ces which make some preparations danger
ous alukinjurious to the hair, the Vigor can
only beditit bat not harm it. If wanted
merely f or • a hair dressing, nothing else
can be found so desirable. Containing nei
thec oil . lior dye, it doe:-; not soil white cam.
bric, and yet lasts long on the hair, giving it
a rich glossy lustre'and grateful perfume.
