on Sunday atttlncion, the 11th inst. lie
had, a day or two previous, in watering the
horse at the well, tied the halter to his ankle

he must not do so again as he might get

was seen running at full speed, with the

Ilex. ULYSSES MERCVEL—The re
election of Bon. UrissES MEECIM seems to
distress our neighbor more than anything
else, that hit him in the last election. The
Inlelligencer had taken so much trouble to
misrepresent and abuse Mr. DlnaCtla ; it
had so confidently predicted his defeat, and
assured the "lion" or lying hearted Democ
racy of Montour that Piollet -would be elec
ted, until the editor actually seemed to be
bore it himself ; and now the disappoint
ment comes on him "like a hawk on a Jane
bug." lie can 014 snap and snarl at the
heels of the successful, and thus proclaim
how hard the disappointment grips his
'dints. --Montour American.

only real base burner. It is a well known
fact that in a cooking stove with nci elonga
ted fire-box the fire will die out . o.t each end,
and a large quantity of dead coal will accu
mulate at these points. To prefeent this in
the American and tcaid and make aimiform
combustion through alj parts of the ilre.box,
air is admitted into a hollow chainber at
the top of the stove above the fire, end car
ried through this hollow heated Chamber
down to near the bottom of the !hie-box at

the burning mass of coal. By 1 thicznearis
a uniform combustion is obtained in all
