Frig IN-' aIiCKSON.—The dwelling
house of SrnvzsTra J. GRIFFIS, of Jackson,
Sullivan County, was consumed by fire on
the 12th of ¶)ctober last, together with the
greater part of its contents. The fire is sup
pcsed to have caught from the stove pipe.
No male members of the family were about
home at the time the fire broke out. Loss,
about s2,ooo—no insurance.

a fair prospect for the location of the Erie
Railway furnaces and rolling mills at or
near Athens, this county. The project is
to huild very extensive.,worhs for the
manu
facture of steel rails. No better location
could be found along the line of the Road,
being nearly central, and . inthe vicinity of
the coal and ore, which would be required
in large quantities.
IRE AT ALBA.-0% the 16th inst.,
between the hours of six and seven o'clock
p. in., a fire broke out in an unoccupied
house in Alba belonging to Henry Wright
of Canton. The fire originated in the sec-.
and story. Blr. Wright had been making
some repairs preparatory to moving into the
house, but left about sundown. The win
dows were fastened as well as the doors so
that it was necessary to break the doors
open in order to put the fire out. By hero
ic efforts the house was saved. The dam
age is about $175. Insurance $BOO.
A DEAD BODY POIIND.—AD . IIDkDOWD
man Was found dead in the, woods about
two miles from Candor. Tioga county, on
Sunday, the lithriturtant. Be had hanged
himself with his . Suspenders, and they hav
ing rotted off, let him to the ground. It
was calculated by the Coroner, who held
the
. inquest, that the body had lain about
eight weeks. The age of the suicide ap
peared to be about 80 years, Itia had two
canes, one was against a tree with his hat
upon it.

Cewer,aged tiro years, fell into a tab of hot
wlier, on Monday night, and vas so badly
scalded that she died on Wednesday.

lightish vest, bound, salt and pepper panta
loons, patched -on one knee, a straw bat,

passing heard the groans of tbe little fellow

What can be gathered from boy is that
he attempted to climb from the roadway of
the bridge to the sidewalk, and slipping,
fell through on the rocks beltiw. It is re
markable that he was not killed instantly.

after be was brought up, but his head was
badly cut. Dr. Nugent was. .called, and
dressed his head. The boy was doing well
when we called to see him,and Will be about
