L-,iving received information that certain
boats' and boatmen sailing on the Junction
canal, had arrived with stolen property on
board, took with him officer MIDDAL*OII, and
, made a raid on Saturday night on two boats
which had recently arrived from Pittston.
They found on board one of the boats a set
of silver plated harness, a set of heavy har
ness, a quantity of Yankee notions and a
large bunch of burglar's keys, consisting of
from fifty to seventy-five. They arrested
two men for the robbery, and also took into
custody a boy and one woman, who were
locked up as witnesses. It is supposed the
Property was etolen somewhere down the
J unction canal in the State of Pennsylvania,
as it seems to be the policy of these boat
thieves to take property stolen by them in
this locality down in Pennsylvania to be
disposed of, and to bring the property from
there cip here.—Elmira Advertiser.

Ma Eurron :—lt is well known 'that a
large and constantly increasing temperance
organization exists in this county, under the
name of Good Templars. At a convention
recently held in Towanda, they passed a
resolution, which is not only consistent
with the principles of the order, but 'which
must commend itself to all temperance
men, recommending that. temperance men
should vote for those only Who are known
to be friendly to the canoe. Now
Piollet boasts, in his public, speechei, tint
he not only drinks, whisky Ilium* , but
“when ho goes into a bar room, lie tills up
the crowd, treats them to what they Want to
drink, and pays for it like a man," (that is
just before election) and then asks 1"who
ever heard of Judge Mercer treating any
body? no one." It is well known, that in
this respect at least, the Colonel's actions
do

not belie his word. How can any con
sistent temperance man, be his politics
what they may, conscience, vote tot. such
a candidate! Rather let them show ixe the
ballot box, that before a man can obtain
their suffrages, he must, at least, show a
decent "respect for their opinions, and not
thus. openly and shanielessly violate every
principle of good manners and good order
by attempting to purchase votes with a
drink of whisky. G. T._
INsuamics.—The place to get a

A. Buanstrx, who is agent for the Pocenix

The Democratic candidate iota Con
gress V. E. Piciazr—when, here boasts that
hundreds of Depublimuts in Bradford 'are
going to vote for him. At home he blaims
that it is in Columbia and Montour where
the recruits from the Bepulilican ranks are
sure to come from. It is all bluster. Beith
er here nor in Bradford will a single itepnb-
Henn vote for him. The people of this Dis
trict don't want a man of his stature and
calibre to represent them in Congress.—
Bloomsburg Republican.
. The meeting here to:day was a grand
success: Early in the day people began to
assemble from all sections and beforP noon
our town was filled - tip 'full and running over.
Delegations camp from Union, Ward, Fox,
and Leßoy, the Leßoy delegations came
led by Capt. Win. F. Ronntsort with from
sixty to seventy-five horsemen well moun
ted, an excellent martial band, and fully.
3000 people were in attendance, and the
greatest enthusiasm prevailed. At 2R. M.
the crowd formed in procession in front of
the Central House. under Capt. lionnsson,
marshal, led by the Canton Brass Band and
the Leßoy Martial Band, and marched up
Centre street to the Disciple Church where I
a commodious stand had been erected. The
meeting was organized.by appointing Col.
lain WILSON, chairman, and L. L. WASH
nuns, JUSTIN BOTIIWELI, EDEN LILLE;
Honnnt. MANLEY, Euss Rocawnw., Jr. E.
7JULLOCIC, L. D. Forman, and HAZY= Hot..
coon Vice Presidents, Mr. Anurrraoso, of
Williamsport, was then introdu - Ped, aid for
an hour and a quaiter held the audience
enwrapped with his logical illustrations
and comparisons, his eloquent and full
review of the political issues. Mr. Idzacus,
was then introduced, and for an hour and a
half ably_ reviewed the past history of the
copperhead party, and thoroughly convinced
all that every nominee of the name of
Ur.rasEs ought to be supported and would
be elected, and to show the contrast I will
give you a history of the meeting held yes
terday, by the cops of this vicinity. Flam
ing hand-bills had been posted announcing
Col. V. E. Prow.zr, 'Col. L. A. MACKEY and
E. E. Davis, of Williamsport, as speakers,
but the bloodless Cols. Prow= and Meer.=
failed to appear, bat the redoubtablei E. E.
Onus, late of the C. S. A. Quartermasters
Department appeared. About 100 dolefu
looking Cops and 200 Republicans presen
ted themselves for the great feast to be giv
en. One point was effectually sustained,
and that was that the rebellion was whipped,
squelched and played out. It had died
perished, kicked the bucket, succumbed
bustsd, and this knight of Jeff Davis's Qnar
termaster's strvice, and who with a flit
knowledge of the oath required made appli
cation for admission to the U.S. Supreme
Court, and when said oath was presented
declined to take it because it was so oppres
sive and unconstitutional. He preferring
to rob himself and fainily of the practice in
that Court, than to subscribe an unconstitu
tional oath. Glorious consistency frequently
told his hearers that ix subdhed the rebel
lion, we compelled the rebels to surrender,
wr conquered the South, we maintained the
Union, we saved the country. No wonder,
the Col's. both of whom are anxious to sit
in Congress as half-priced members, who
are now travelling on a trading as well as
a begging enterprise failed to appear. It
wa3 not the company they wanted to be in.
Yours respectfully,

The family circle had remained unbroken

"Myers" was a boy of good mind, ; and of
more than ordinary ambition. In the school

and always at his post.. Of an honest, frank

ever to have seen a frown upon his face, or
to have heard an angry word frcilm his lips.
