After the articles had all been placed in
the stone, and the cover placed upon it,
the Bishop, staling the stone three times
with a mason's mallet, said :
In the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. I
lay the corner-stone of an edifice to be
erected by the name of Christ Church, and
to be devoted to the service of Almighty
God, agreeably to the principles of the
Protestant Episcopal Church in the 'United
Stites of America, in its doctrines, minis
try, liturgy, rites and usages.
Other foundation can no, man lay than
that which-is laid, even Jesus Christ ; who
is God over nu, blessed for evermore ; and
in whom we have redemption through his
blood, even the forgiveness of sins. dmen.
The short discourse, by the Bishop,
which followed, was very appropriate to the
occasion. Cue= was held forth as the
only true corner stone of Religion. It was
entirely tree from sectarianism' which too
often mars occasions of this kind.
The exercises hated about an hour, and
everything passed off to the entire , satisfac
tion of all concerned. We noticed on the
platform with the officiating clergymen,
Bev. Wit. Mims, •of the Presbyterian
Church, this place, who received a cordial
