" Tut?. OonNtim. MONTHLY is a new
Magazine of 32 pages, published by Messrs
D. Lothrop and N. P. Kemp, at lios. 38 and
40 Derain, Boston, at the low Oki of One
Dollar a year. The initial number, whi j oh
bas just appeared, has beauty for; the eye
and an appetizing table of cotatts. Un
like most of the cheap Magazines, the
CornhW Monthly is elevated in tone,i and its
literary qualities aro such as spebially adapt
it to readers of wholesome and cultivated
tastes. Its fariety is noticeatde, its arti
cles are generally brief and entertaining, it
eminently aims to photograph te world of
letters within a small area, and .to Garry
pleasure and profit to its readers. -It is
equally removed from sensationelitiM and
prosiness ; it suggests neither t prudity nor
fossilization. Practiced pens have tip:dent
ly been at work in its baba/1; yet ii kris vi
vacity mingled with its discretion ;land
while its convictions would stand Steadily
by the old truth, it plainly sympathizes
with what is vital and truly progreSsive.—
The opening number has merits that are
tat and solid and promising, and we wish
the new comer a long life and a tboremighly

Family &witty Mach,ines.
These Machines are superior to all others for
family use. for the following reasons :
They sew with two threads dieect froth the
spools, and rep* no rewinding. .
They are mom 'easily understood and used,
and less liable to derangement, than other Ma
chines.
They are capable of executing perfecty,
without change of adjustment,* much greater
variety of work than other machines.
The stitch made by these machines is much
more Arm,
_el istic, and durable, especially upon
articles which require to be washed and kneed,
than any other stitch.
This stitch, owing to the manner in which
the Ander thread is =wrought, is much the
moat plump and- Wanted eve n , and retains
this plumpness and beauty,
.upon articles
frequently washed sad ironed, natal they are
worn out.
The 'structure of the seam h such, that, tho'
It be cut or broken at intervals of only a few
stitches, it will neither open, ran,' nor ravel,
bat remains drm and durable.
Unlike other machines, theie Listen both
endear the imam by their own operation.
With these machines. while silk is used upon
the right or face side of the seam. cotton may
be used upon the other side without lessening
the strength or durability of the seam. This
can be done on uo other machine,-and bi a grat
awing upon all articles .stitched or made up
with Wk.
- These machines, in addition to their superior
merits as Instruments for sewing, execute the
most beautiful and permanent embroidery and
ornamental work.
