GOODRICII.—IIIy Dee* Sir: Will you allow ms a little space in the RzPowrza for a word of explanation in regard to the Sunday School book business? A mission ary of the American Sunday Schbol Union is required by his commission to circulate the publications of the Society, by sale to any parties and by donation to feeble mis sion school& If any profits accrue from the sales, they go back to increaSe tho effi ciency of the publishing depaitment. I have sold about two thousand dollars worth of these Union books in Bradford county without receiving a single pennyworth of percentage or profit ; while not less than three hundred dollars worth have been giv en away. The question,' therefore, whether the Sunday School Missionary' ," is getting richfrorn selling books" isfa matter that will bear inspection, and is cheerfully', submitted for investigation by any parties except his creditors in Towanda. Again, if any person or persons in Towanda will undertake this part of the Missionaris work, and do it, he will gladly and most earnestly pray "the powers that be" to effect the transfer, with the profits, as speedily as possible; but, un til such arrangement shall be ' made, a double necessity is laid upon us to "feel the lambs." Yours ever in behalf of the children, R. CRITTENDni Dushore, dune 18, 1888. - . THE BARCLiYIINEB CONNECTED WITH TUE ERLE RAILWA. —EXCURSION Team TO Wavnany.—Fifteen years ago HEM GATIBS superintended the mining operations of the Barclay regiOn, and got out Coal enough to supply the demand for blacksmithing pur poses and forluel, The only mode of trans portation was by teams, over a horrible road, almost impassable except in winter. Business was dull, except when a "fine run of sleighing," made tie mines accessible, when sleighs came for miles around to pro cure a supply of the valuable product of the Barclay mines. The construction of the Barclay Railroad, connecting the mines with the North Branch Canal at this place, was the commencement of operations, and the development of a traffic, which has grown to be-of much importance. = The Canal, however, 'while it has been valuable, as a means of transportation,, has been somewhat unreliable, through frequent dis asters, and the want of an outlet which should be steady and reliable heti been felt. This has been accomplished, in She con struction Of the Road of the Pennsylvania and New York Citrial and Railroad Co. to Waverly, and its connection with the Barclay Road. The first train direct from Barclay to Waverly waa ran over the road on Wednes day, of last week, and to celebrate an event of so much importance to this, section, it carried quite a number of persons whehed been invited to participate in the auspicious occasion. A train had been inside up con sisting of the locomotive "Greenwood," two passenger coaches and thirty-Uri) coal cars. The engine and cars were decorated U. S. Sags, and festooned with Sewers and ap propriate devices arranged by STSPEEN Tina, Master Mechanic of the Company, who ran the train, thereby assuring the Company that they were in charge of an experienced and careful engineer, The Company. ebmprised moat of the prominent citizens of the place, numbering over one hundred,. and though it was al; most an impromptu affair,. so atbnizably had the matter been-arranged by Messrs. .1:,1d. Wann,Superintendent, and A. Drvan, Treas urer or the "Company, that all-the wants of wi l s2 the guests were well cared for . ;A t At 1 p*. m. the train departed from tlip To da basin, and was soon passing alength iron road which nowoccupies the towing. It strongly reminds one, those intensely 3iot days down South, uring the war, when no=one could live out Of doors but mules j and darkies, the latter Militias would select the hottest pavement tidlable, and lie with faces turned up tow d the sun through the most agonizing 'lours of those exdruciating Lot days. In some of ix!? mentallaberrations I luive been liid to infer ironi - this, that there must be a ilot Heaven exclusively for negroes. We Bear occasionally of 4th otJuly celebrations in preparation, in Mileaboring towns, but it hardly excites us to patriotic efforts in that direction. All they impfovements which I mentioned a's going lorward, earlier in the season, areresultingsatisfactorily: We have +anted a good hotellhere, but that was dur ing the winter. The cravings of the appetite can bo satisfied by ti l btaining a fresll loif of Jr.soitz, and milk from any or all of the numerous fowl that iffest our streets. A want that is 'seriously felt among our business men; is that of a banking house, of place where' exchange can bo effected. Bast week the Convention of the Bradford tiounty Sunday School Association was held to the AL E.
