Mr. E. p, i3rAzroall, of Wyalnsing, with a
photograph of the hog° owl, shot by him,
an account of .which was published in the
Rueowrita. This wiSedooking bird was Well
photographed by Pow= & NicnoLs of Le-
Raysville. When killed he had a steel trap
-attached to one leg, and the owner of the
trap, living many miles distant, seeing the`
notice in the Etarcarnre, demanded and re
ceived his property.
CIIENANGO — CANAL EXTENBION.—The
Canal bill, .containing an appropriation of
$320,000 for the Ohenango ()anal Extension,
passed the Assembly last week by yeas 93,
nays 9. Mr. Exisuno, of Tompkins, made
an able and telling speech in support of the
Chenango, and our own member, 'Mr.
NKr, gave tate bill an efficient support. We
were also assurawhilit, in Albany.that the
appropriation would in all probability pass

SAD CASUALTY I—We are pained to
, record the sudden and terrible death of Mr.
Jows M. Samar, of Clymer township, on
Tuesday,l2th inst. kr. Salami - and a ycnmg
er brother were cutting logs in the woods.
Ruling it necessary to cut off a windfall
near the - roots, he mounted the fain tree
and commenced sawing it off. As soon as
it was - pewee% the. stistup, on which he
sloe& foil suddenly - inwark crushing him
between the toots and the frank of the tree
and killioghita instantly. This la a terrible
affliction to the friends of the deceased. Mr.
&mire wa 87 years of age, and a very wor
