weighing fifty-six pounds from a lady in that
city, on Friday last. The prospects were

place and Waverly has not been damaged
by the high water. Trio have been made
every day, though not on WS regular time.
The embankments in some places where
they were new, have been washed, making
great caution necessary, to prevent acci
dents: In a day or two. all will be right
rain.

briate A.sylum, at Binghamton, a few days
ago, escaped in some manneinnobserved,
and while absent becamepretty well intoxi
cated, and returned to the Asylum in that
condition. While one of the keepers was
trying to secure him in a room the drunken
man drew his knife and stabbed him. The
injury Will probably prove fataL

roes flood, founded upon the• immense
depth of suow in the woods, has happily
not been realized. The ice moved in the
pOol of the dam, on Saturday, without doing
any damaga, and the Susquehanna" has not
risen any higher than last spring, being
some 5 feet below the high water mark of
1865. We do not hear of any damage by
streams in this County.
b SCROOI. DOUSE -BURN - ED.—A tiellud
lorise in the village. of Newark Valley, was
estroyed by fire on Friday night, or rather
Saturday morning, the 29th ult. It is sup
posed that some rude boys had made it a
r rendezvous, for gambling, and other im
proper purposes. This was as good a school
house as there was in that town, and we
hope its — dea l ruction will lead to smile re
organization Tor the benefit .of the village.-

SAW MILL BURNED.-.NATHANIEL
Mooaz's saw mill, 5 miles south of Owego,
in the town of Nichols,was set on fire about
12 o'clock on Saturday night and entirely
destroyed. Loss about $1,500 ; no insur
ance. The incendiary, ezortos lavraixons,
wai tracked through- the snow, from the
mill to his father's house, in Windham
township, Pa., by H. N. Moons, and some
others, where he was arrested, and is now
tu the jail in this village. Previous to set
ting fire to the mill he -stole a quantity of
carpenter's tools from it. He pleads guilty
and is bound over to court.-010ego 7 fines.

It will be seen that twenty-eight per cent.

operation. When the whole division shall
have been opened to traffic, the Lehigh
Valley Railroad Company will operate 206
mils of main line, from Easton to Waverly,
besides its Beaver Meadow and Mahanoy
Launches. And as the csrs of the Lehigh
Valley Railroad Company will run north
:old northwest to the lakes, and South and
east to tidewater, the area of its fixture ope
rations,, bounded by • the sea and by the
lakes, contains an immense population.—

A BAND or YOUNG THIEVES.—Union,
"Broome Co., has its sensation. On Sunday,
week three young lads•were arrested on_the
!..harge of burglarously entering stores and
prirate - houses." Keys to several of the best'
stores in the village were found in their
-charge, and it transpired, at the trial, that
fora long time they had been in the habit
of pilfering money and goods froldtherh. A
room in one of the hotels, occupied by a
prominent merchant, hsd been entered at
different seasons, and over a hundred dol
lars taken from it ',.-generally whenthe oc.ott
pants 'were at dinner. The friends of the
young rascals succeeded inkeeping the mat
ter hushed, and they were allowed their lib
-arty on condition of leaving the village and
