A SINGULAR. ACCIDENT.—A young
man named Wilmot, residing near Great
'lend, Pe., met with a singular accident re
cently. The family had purchased a new
stove, and hat' just kindled a fire, when
young Wilmot, who was standing near, was
struck in his head with a bullet, which came
from the hearth of the-stove or near it.—
This bullet shattered a finger an - il a thumb,
and then, passing upward, went through
the rim of his hat. It lodged in the cham
ber floor, having gone through the plaster
ing.and lathing that intervened. - it is sup
posed that the shot was contained in a cyl

stlxVe when the fire was made, it W 71.73 soon
disellarged by the heat, with the effect al

the,eaSing of the cartridge must have been
exceedingly strong. The statement of the
effect of the accidenl is undoubtedly cor

was not unusual. As the train left this
person was seen (by a lady living west of
the depot) to rash from behind fhe tank
and throw, himself under the train. The
engine wits stopped and the mangled form
semoved, and upon examination the citi

'sufferer lived hardly an hoar, in great ago

and take me home to my, mother!" It is
reported and supposed that the unfortunate
young lady was' laboring under an hberra

Family Sewing Machines.
•
- "
These Machines are superiur to all others fo r
limily use, for the following reasons • -
.They sew with two threads e.feect .from, the
spools, and requite nn rewinding.
They are more easily understood and used,
and less liable to derangement, than other ma
chines. •
They are capable of executing perfect.y,'
without change of adjustment i s much greater
variety of work tbo other machines. • • •
The stitch madr) by these machine* is mach
more firm, el , stle, and durable, especially 'upon
articles which require•to be washed.and ironed,
than any other stitch. - • •
This stitch, owing to the manner in whicti
the under thread is unwronght, is much the
most plump and beautiful in use; and retains
this plampness and beauty, even upon articles
frequently washed and ironed . , until they are
worn out. •
The structure of the seam la such, that, the'
it be cut or broken at - intervals of only a tew
stitches, it will neither open, run, nor ravel,
bat remains firm and durable. '
Unlike other machines, these fasten both
ends of the seam by their own operation.
With these machines, while silk is used upon
the right or face side of the seam, cotton.may
be used upon the other side without lessening
the'strength or darability of the sesuli"This
can be dons on uo other machine; and is a great
saving upon all articles stitched - or made up
with silk. •
These machines, in addition to their superior
Merits as instruments fox sewing, execute the
most beautiful and penntitzent_ embroidery and
ornamental work. ' .
ica can get Sewing Machine Needles, and all
articles, pertainhig to the .sehlno tautness .
