A Ocntur.s Cass.—A child sis weeks

grown together in such a manner as to en

perfectly blind. The Doctor severed the
adhesion of the lids,' and exhibited two per

AsinticAN NorEs."—We are in
debted to Ticknor Fields, Boston, for a
neat copy of " American Notes for General
Circulation, by Charles Dickens." This is
the work which, after Mr. Dickens's return
to Europe from his American trip, excited
so much bitter remark., The plainness
with which he portrays tlic6lefectsVner
ican.social life,. was thought to un
kind return for the marked courtesies ex
tended to him. After all, the candid,
tthoughtfal American reader may have more
ceause to (Farrel with.the defects themselves
Chan with Mr. Dickens for exposing them.
As Mi. Dickens is about delivering a• series
of lectures hi this country, Ticknor &
Fields—his only anthorizedAnierienn pub
lishers—have done a'whis thing .in putting
on the mark 4 a new edition of the Ameri
can Notes, assured thaV the sober, second
thought of our .. pecipie Will furnish ample
vindication against the harsh criticisms
which their first appearance called forth.
