.IP4r The first ease under the late
Liquor Law came up before Justice BOGART,
last week. The unfortunate victim was
locked up under the Boit) laws, for being
intoxicated in the street,. After he became
sober enough to make limself understood,
he was brought beforwthe Magistrate, and
, examined as to wherelie procured his liquor.
We understand it is the intention of the
temperance men to enforce the Liquor Laws
egaiust all offenders, and able counsel has
been retained.

MINISTERIAL AiSOCIATION.—The min.
istera, belonging to each presiding elder's
district in the Methodist, Episeopal confer
ences, constitute severally a District Minis
terial Association, which holds a sort of
preachers' institute, at some place, each
quarter of the year. 'The Association for
the Troy . District (East Genessee Confer
ence.,) convened at the M. E. Church in
Towanda, on Tuesday last, at 2 o'clock. P.
IL Rev. T. B. Hudson, presiding elder,
being in the Chair. Rev. J. D. Bell, of
Clster, was unanimously chosen to give the
opening address, in the absence of one who.,
had been appointed - to perform that part.—
His subject was "The Law of Final Retribu
tion." On motion, it was voted to omit the
exercise of criticism on this address, so that
its impiessioc on the audience might not be
impaired. The Association then proceeded
to action under the regular order, which
was the reading of sermons, or sketches of
sermons, by members, and the passing of
criticisms upon them. , 'Bevds, J. T. Brow
nell, R. L. Stilwell, G. 5: Frapser, J. D.
Sell, R. Videin, N. Fellows, e V. Brownell,
Wm. M. Barman, M. S. Rymer, and C. L.
F. Howe, each p i turn presented a writ
ten discourse or sketch, which, (except in
the - case of . Rev. J. T. Brownell, who was
exempted from criticism out of kelikaterni
in view of his being before his own charge, )
underwent the trying ordeal of sternthough
well meant probing end inspection. Many
0" She strictures on rhetexic end mannerism,
.were acute and telling, and acre were oc
casional sallies In the way of keen Alierkeo

Family &wing Machines
These Machines are superior to all , others for
family use. for the following reasons':
They tie Wwith two- threads .-ieect from the
spools, and require nu rewinding.
. They are more - tally understood • and used,
and leaa, liable tif derangement, than outer ma
chines:,
• They , two - capable of executing perfectly,
without change of adjustment, a much greater
variety bi workihan other machines.
The stitch made by these machines is much
more firm, et:stie, and durable, especially upon
articles whicb•require to be washed and Ironed,
than any other stitch.' .
'This stitch-, owing to the mabnr in which
the under thread is anwronghr, is '
much the,
most plump and beautiful in use, and retains
this plumpuess end beauty, even upon articles
frequently washed and, ironed, 'until they are
worn wit. •
The structure of the seam la such, that, tho'
it be cut or broken 41t intervals of only a few
stitches, it will neither open, run, nor ravel,
but remains drin au•3 curable. •
• Unlike other machines, these fasten both
ends of the seam by tbeltiown opetatiow
With these machines, while silk is used upon
the right or face side of the seam, cotton-may
be used upon the other side without lessening
the strength or durability of the seam. This
cau be done on Ito other machine, and is a great
saving upon all 'articles stiuMett or made np
with silk.
These machines, in addition- to their saperlor
merits asituitruments -tor sewing. execute the most beautiful and permanent embroidery ago
,ornamental work.
