Ma EDITOR.— Dear Sir — l observe in your
last issue a notice offering a reward of $l5O
for the arrest of certain persons, charged
with committing a crime in Springfield, on
the 10th of May, the notice being signed
Timothy 11. Hubbard. There is no such
person in this town as Timothy Hubbard,
and the design of the notice seems to le t to
east a slur on the lady whose name appears
in it. Now Mr. Editor, it seems very
strange to me that any young man who had
a particle of manliness or self respect,
should be guilty of such a contemptible act,
and I would respectfully suggest that when
Mr. Abram O. Westbrook A Co., of Spring
field, wish to avenge any of their wrongs,
either real or imaginary, upon any of their
lady acquaintances, they will do well to
adopt some more decent method than that
most despicable one of writing or causing
to be writen and published such a notice as
the one referred to. G. B. HUBBARD.
FATAL AFFRAY. —Henry Youngs of
Hector Township was killed on Wednesday,
the first inst., by Charles llazy a near neigh
bor. The parties had not been on friendly
terms for some time previous, as appears
from rumor. They were alone, and we
have only the statements of Razy as to the
facts in the case.
It appears Bazy was passing along the
public road, by the farm of Youngs, when
he says, he was accosted by Youngs, who
was in his field, and some angry words pas
sed between them. Razy went into Youngs'
field with the intention of whipping him.—
When they metf Razy alleges that Youngs
came at him with a knife, and that he struck
Youngs under the ear and knocked him
down once or twice, then got onto him and
beat him until dead. Razy then took the
body and carried it off about twenty-five
rods, leaving it on a piece of land claimed
by him, but which had been in dispute be
tween the parties. After it was ascertained
by the inquest, that the killing was done in
the field of Youngs, Razy admitted it, and
says the reason he placed the body whore
he did, was that he thought it would be
more favorable for him, to have it appear
that the affray occurred on the disputed ter
ritory. Razy is now confined in jail, and
we forbear comments until a judicial inves
tigation is had, - Potter Journal.
IMPORTANT TO TAVERN-KEEPERS. —The
rate Legislature passed an act requiring
that all places where liquor is sold shall be
closed at twelve o'clock every night and
during Sunday. The following is a section
ol the act:
''SEC. 5. All persons, thus licensed, shall
close or shut up their bar or place of sale
at or before the hour of twelve every night,
a- ll i not open the same until sunrise next
day, and on Sunday shall not open them at
all, but keep them shut until Monday at
sunrise ; this is not designed to prevent the
reception and lodging of persons traveling,
without violation of law.
I he same act prohibits the sale or gift of
liquor or beer to minors and apprentices
without the written consent of parents,
guardians or masters. Selling or giving
liquor to habitual clruafc&xda is to be pua-
ished by forfeiture of license. Selling or
giving liquor to a husband, wife or child,
against the request of child, wife or hus
band. is made punishable by all the fines
and forfeitures of the act, and the party so
selling or gi\ ing shall in all cases be liable
for damages in any court of competent juris
diction. The penalty for violation of the
act is a fine of not more than twenty dollars,
and, in default of payment, imprisonment
for not more than five days. Constables,
sheriffs and policemen are required to en
force the requirements of the act and to ar
rest all persons found drunk and take them
before a magistrate, where, when sober
enough, their testimony shall be taken
against those from whom the liquor was
obtained. See General Laws, 1867, No. 70,
pp. 00.

TlCE.— Holders of the August issue of Sev

Five-Twenty Bonds bearing six per cent, in

great that the Treasury Department will be
unable to supply the Bonds promptly.
In making the exchange, the interest will
be allowed on the Seven-Thirties to date of
conversion, and the back interest on the
Five-Twenty Bonds paid to same date, in
currency. This interest will be returned to
holders of the Bonds July ls(, in coin, mak
