vester Farnham of Tioga, N. Y., lay down to rest
herself, being in her usual health, and when called
for tea was discovered to he dead in her bed,having
doubtless died of heart disease.

HEALING BY THE LAYING ON OF HANDS. —Much ex
citement has prevailed at Way's Hotel, in this
place, since Dr. Darrin arrived, whose peculiar
i system ot healing has created a general stir
throughout the country wherever he exercises his
wonderful power. From an early hour iu the morn
ing until late in the evening, his rooms are dense
ly crowded by the "lame, halt and blind, the
wounded, sick and sore," besides many others
whose curiosity lead them there to witness the
cures performed. We were present during one af
ternoon. and witnessed many remarkable cures.—
the lame aud the rheumatic were made to discard
their crutches and walk off; the deaf were made
to hear, the blind to see, and the speechless to
speak. One unmistakable case came under our
immediate attention, that of dropsy and a dis
tressing iuflamatoryrheumatism. The*sufferer had
been unable to walk or bear the slightest touch.—
The Doctor exercised his wonderful power, and
enabled him to walk through the house at once.—
Such things are indeed wonderful, and furnish a
theme for study and reflection. The Doctor is cer
tainly proving himself a public benefactor, and
his private charities are not alone confined to heal- !
ing. The poor share his purse, aud his benevo- j
lence is wide spread. We cannot in justice to the
afflicted, permit this opportunity to pass without}
requesting our readers to try him. it is an easy !
matter to denounce anything as a humbug, as has j
been the theory oi the circulation of the blood, the j
application of steam to iu ichinery, and numerous
other things of which there is no chance for dis
pute among men of inteligeiice. He came to Bing
hamton in August, au entire stranger. He took
no special pains to herald his advent, but quietly
awaited events, till at length cases came to him,
those who had lost all hope, but still clung to life,
and as a last resort sought his aid and were re
lieved. Theii joy was unbounded, and they pro
claimed what great things he had done for them,
marveling that a man could, by the laying on of
hands, accomplish cures which had defied the
best skill of the medical profession. Many of his
cases have been desperate ones, chronic and deep
seated ; with scarcely any exception they yield
readily to his manipulations. A look into his
rooms at the canes and crutches that have been
left where people have been cured instantly,
would convince the greatest skeptic.

until prevented by the gathering infirmities of age
weary of life's journey she rests at last. "He giv
