Sworn and subscribed before me, this 2d day of

A CARD.— Several statements of one J.
K. FLEMING, which appealed in last week's paper
and which refer to me, being absolutely false and
calculated to deceive, seem to require a brief no
tice.
I am not agent lor Ivison, Phinuey & Co., or for
any other house.
I attended the Institute at Springfield and the*
Association at Sylvania i r my own improvement
and not in the employ of Messrs. ALVOSD A BAR
BER, nor do T think they then knew of my going.
I do not know that Prof. SANDERS or I,' P. ,V Co.
said, did, or wrote anything to procure or ncour
age the adoption ot any i solution at those meet
ings. But 1 tlo know that certain directors at
Springfield suggested the propriety of the assem
bled teachers adopting some such resolution to
snow what hooks they approved. lam not aware
that the resolutions adopted at those meetings
were lobbied through by wire pulling, nor dif I
think the teach.-rs ot this County so tame and im
becile as to suffer ine or any one to wheedle them
into adopting u resolution which the do not fa
vor. As to whether the Nays called at Syl
vauia I refer Mr. F. to the Chairman of that meet
ing. Although 1 attended one evening at Lcßoy
Ido not yet know what resolutions, or whether
any were adopted by that Institute.
Finally, although 1 do favor the " Union Series,"
have used my influence for their adoption for the
sake of uniformity of books, yet 1 had nothing to
do in the publication of the puffs which Mr. F.
graciously ascribes to nic, and if the false state
ments contained in his article are a lair sample of
his oicu co!' . .•, which he boasts ol' sailing under,
then I would rather be the cut's pair (which office
he generously concedes to me,) than be his stand
ard bearer. J. 11. KINGSBURY.
