It lurnishes a pleasing illustration of the fact, that the ' doing good to those who are ol the household of faith," is not inconsistent with a wide-spread religions interest, But is tatliet one of its natural "And lie set meat before them and rejoiced—believing in God with all his ! house." A. J. ROSSEEL. SEe" Rev. E. P. HAMMOND, the cek-luated Evangelist, arrived in this village on Saturday, and on Sunday afternoon held a "Children's Meeting" at the M. L. Church. The house was crowded to overflowing, and a large number of the children, wha were conversed with before the close of the services, expressed an earnest desire to become Christians. On Sunday evening the Union ser vices were held in the Presbyterian Church. Sev- I end ministers present made brief addresses, and 1 n marks were made by Mr. MACFAIU.ANE and Mr.' Mu.Ll.it Fox, of Towauda, who came to this v 1- ' luge with Mr. HAMMOND, to bear their testimony to j the powerful revival at Towauda, under the labors ; of Mr. H. Mr. Fox is a distinguished Civil Engi- j ucer, well known to our oldest inhabitants. He j was the Engineer who located and constructed the ! railroad between Corning and Blossburg twenty-I five years ago. He is one of the recent converts at Towauda, and his remarks, as well as those of his friend. Mr. .M.OIMA.ANK, who is extensively known t sis a leading Coal Dealer, were listened to with tin- j usual interest. Their testimony was peculiarly ! valuable, as coming from sagacious, cautious and ! honorable business men, who could not be eliarg- j ed with lanuticisni, or with being led by sympathy | to endorse measures that tut intelligent judgment j might disapprove of. They knew whereof they af- i tinned, and none who heard them eonld deny the i the value of their testimony. The meetings have j been continued daily and will he throughout the i week. There is a morning prayer meeting at half- I past light, which is now held at the Baptist ' Church. There has been a children's meeting at j halt-past three each afternoon, and services in the | evening at either the Methodist or Presbyterian j Churches. The evening meetings are now held at the M. E. Church. There has been a large degree ' nt religions interest. It is impossible to state how 1 many have been converted. Scores of children and also ol adults are. believed to be the fruits of tlic 1 revival this week. Mr. HAMMOND expects to leave j oil Saturday. He has pressing invitations from I many places. We saw this morning a letter front Rochester stating that Rev. Dr. SHAW, ot the Pres byterian Church, one of the most useful and can-. 1 tious of the Pastors in that city, was urging Mr. H. to visit that place again. About two years ago Mr. H. labored in Rochester, and 1000 children j were converted as was then believed, and is now \ known, as the converts "boll out" in proportim j to their numbers as well as those of any revival ■ ever known there. Corninj Journal. Dr. 11. A. RECORD lias removed front Lelhtysville, and permanently located in this, place, for the practice of his profession, as will be j seen hy his card in another column.
