The book is to comprise au authentic account of battles and seiges, ,dventures and incidents, including biographies of I the prominent generals who brought to a trium phant close the Great Rebellion of 1861-5, with i I numerous fine steel portraits, battle scenes and j ! maps, and will be sold only by subscription. There ! | is no more graphic pen wielded at the present day j I than that of Mr. Headley, who lias the happy fac- j j ulty of spreading tlfe scenes he describes visibly j ' before the eye. The enlargement and improvement ' of the Depot at this Station are nearly completed, j In design the building is superior to nny on the ! road. The Telegraph apartment fronts on the track and gives the dispatcher facilities for seeing j and knowing the arrival and departure of trains i not hitherto enjoyed at this station. It is so situ- j ated between the Ladies and Gentleman's rooms : as to be easy of access from both for business pur- | poses. The Ticket Office is circular, and also sit- : uated between the ladies' and gentlemen's rooms, ' and so arranged that the agent can sell tickets to 1 either without a change of position. Water closets 1 are well arranged, the want of which have hereto fore been the bane of railroad depots. The various j apartments are roomy and convenient, and the en- I largement, on the whole, materially increases the capacity of the Freight department—a matter of great importance to this station. The agent, Mr. G. F. Walker, deserves much credit for designing these improvements and carrying them forward to completion. If the same neatness and order pre- j vail, as have hitherto characterized the manage ment of this station. CHARI.ES MIXER died uettr YVilks- ] bane, at the residence of his sou, W. P. Miner, \ on Thursday evening last, at nine o'clock, in the j eighty-seventh year of his age. Few lives have ' been crowded with more general interest and indi- ; vidual adventure. Xot only to a Pennsylvanian, ! but to citizens of other States, the experience of ' Charles Miner was an object of pleasing and prof- ' itable study. He was bom at Norwich, Conn.,and when nineteen years old emigrated to Wyoming valley. Joined afterwards by his older brother, a printer, he started the Luzerne Fed' rulist. This was superceded by the Gleaner, with Miner as the principal edito--. Through its columns he gave for several months the celebrated essays of morals and wit, of fact and fancy and delicate humor, en titled "From the Desk of Poor Robert, the Scribe." These gave him such popularity that he was invit ed to become assistant editor of tho Political and Oimmerrial lieyister, in Philadelphia. He accepted, but soon went to West Chester, where, with his brother, he established the Villwje liecord. Poor Robert here wrote over the signature of "John Harwood," mid made the paper very popular.— While there he was elected twice to Congress as a colleague of Mr. Buchanan. He was a useful and able member ; took great interest on the subject o." slavery, to which he was opposed. He awakened ike country to the silk-growing bus ness, and drew and introduced the first resolutions on the subject, and wrote the able report which was introduced by General Stephen Van Rensselaer, us chairman of the eommittej on agriculture. About 1832 be re linquished business in West Chester and returned to Wyoming Valley. Charles Miner was a model ; journalist and statesman : the father of a school of sound thinkers, and the most practical philanthro pist of his time. MARRIED.
